Lightbulb Interviews for a New Sorority Coming on Campus

Hello. There is a new sorority coming on my campus and they will be holding interviews for potential members to become a founding sister of their chapter. Has anyone gone thru the process of becoming a founding sister and are the interview questions similar to a job interview? I am trying to prepare for this interview and any help is greately appreciated!

i

went through the process...well at least the interview part. i played college volleyball and that prevented me from going to the rest of the process. during my interview it was a lot of questions about school work, grades, campus involvement, and those sorts of questions. It was actually quite relaxing and fun. Great and easy conversation. Good LUCK

interview

if you have not had a chance to do so already, you might want to check the national website of the colonizing sorority so that you know a little about them. it's not that the interviewer will be giving you a pop quiz, but you might have a few questions to ask them. good luck.

Erin how do you remember that much? I can't even remember that much... except that I spoke with Shawna and that there were all these older women around... everything else is a blur...

Good

Arin
I am just that good. It was a crazy time in my life and I seem to remember a lot of details from that interview. I spoke with Shawna also. I think that the only reason I got a bid was because they were impressed with my volleyball skills (j/k). But that was the only even that I went to. Sometimes I wonder if they asked any of the girls that were going through the process about me (like Laura, Allison, Duncan and the such). Do you know how COB is going??? The NM should have gotten my letters today or yesterday!!

I recently went through the process, and there's nothing better then being a founding sister . The only question that I was asked in the interview was "Why do you want to join Tri Delta?". I would definitely do some research on the sorority that is coming to campus, and find out why you want to join that sorority.

LOL! I was one of those *slightly* older women when we colonized our new chapter at Harvard. Some of the questions we asked were:

*What interests you about starting a new chapter?
*What kinds of activities are you participating in now?

It was our job to offer information, projected dues and fees, time commitment, etc.

Just be ready if you are asked "Do you have any questions?" Some of the ones were heard were:

*How will you decide who gets in? (Avoid this one!)
*So, what is your national reputation? (Don't ask this either.)
*I'm from Miami, is there a chapter there at the University of Miami? (This is fine.)
*Will you have a house? (Tough one to answer, so you might want to stay away from it.)
*What was your experience with Kappa in college? Were you an officer? What was your philanthropy project? (Good ones! Alumnae love to talk about their active days.)

Good luck with your interview!

I just went through the process this past fall. It is a wonderful experience. Just remember to be yourself. If you are nervous it is ok they will understand. Don't sell yourself short. Founding sisters are usually ones that are already outstanding leaders on campus. Interviews are a way that they can get to know you better and to see if you are willing to do the work and the time commitment that starting a colony requires. And everyone else has said do alittle research about the organization. Find out what the philanthropy is and the main tenants of the organization. You have to make sure it is the right home for you and thats why you want to join... DO NOT JOIN JUST TO SAY YOU WERE A FOUNDING SISTER! This will not make you happy in the end.

Best of Luck!

Slight hijack: I was completely unaware that there were NPC sororities now at Greensboro College. Are you still a colony? And what were your interest group's "letters" before you associated with AXiD? I know I had heard that there were groups there called UPS and FedEx, which I thought was really strange. Feel free to PM me this info so we don't throw this thread way off track... I'm just incredibly interested to learn!

Thanks for this info, but that webpage doesn't tell me anything new. It has not been updated with information regarding Alpha Xi Delta; it simply states that there are Greek Life interest groups, which I already knew.

However, GCRose provided me with everything I wanted to know!

Cool

Thank you to everyone for your input. I had my interview today and it was a successful. My interviewer smiled and said that I asked the most questions out of anyone else that she interviewed today so hopefully that's a good thing. Recruitment is this week on my campus, so keep your fingers crossed & pray for me!

Thumbs down

Well I didn't get it. They said that they didn't invite me "at this time" so I don't know if they mean that there's a chance later on that I could get it, but oh well. Rejection hurts but life goes on and I'm better off being an independent anyway.
