Mississippi Chapter of Omega Psi Seeking Help
Hello,
My name is Eddie Tate and I am a student at Jackson State University. I am a senior Sociology major with a minor in Social Work. I am writing because I am in dire need of your help. For quite some time we have had an inactive chapter of Alpha Phi Omega here on our campus. Just last week the Student Government Association and Dean of Students as well as our Vice-Provost of Student Life availed 18 people the opportunity to reactivate the Omega Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega. It has truely been a task. We will have our first meeting next week to choose officers, plan activities, etc. I am asking your assitance because I feel that you being already established you will be able to help me to help strengthen my organization. I have been mainly the person putting it all together and I need all the help that I can get. We are in dire need of help from you to see what should or could be our next move. I was inspired by your organization to do some of things that you are doing. I look forward to talking with you and hearing from you because trust me I have a lot of questions.
Please do not hesitate to call me at 601-979-7982. Please leave a name and number and I will get back with you as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Eddie Tate

On behalf of the petitioning group at Johnson C. Smith University (another HBCU), I just want to say thank you for your interest in reving the Omega Psi chapter on your campus. We are in the process of bringing back the Delta Phi chapter on our campus. So far, things are looking good and we are not far behind. Also, FYI we were the very first HBCU to have established a chapter in 1947. Anyway, information that I can give you is that you must first become an interest group and then a petitioning group. With the numbers that you have given of persons interested, I would assume that you have enough people to become a petitioning group. You would have to do some forms of service as well as fellowship activities. All I can tell you in that it is a long and tedious process. Don't get discouraged though, you and your group will make it and you will love every bit of Alpha Phi Omega. If you need to talk to me anytime hit me up on MSN Messenger as dominic_goodman@hotmail.com, AOL Messenger at GoldnBlue2004, or shoot me an email at dominic_goodman@hotmail.com. Take care man and goodluck.

Extension Effort
You are doing fine. The process normally takes between 18 months to two years end to end, but don't worry, you'll get lots of help.
Go ahead and ask your questions. Either posting here, or lurking are active brothers, petitioners, brothers who have been petitioners (including some at HBCUs), alumni, staff, and board members. If we can't answer your questions, we *will* find the people who can.
Right now the group at Jackson State is a Prospect Group which means that the National Office has been in good contact with the group or its representative and that things are starting. The steps go Prospect Group, Interest Group, Petitioning Group and then chapter.
While your chapter will once again receive the chapter letters Omega Psi when you recharter, generally referingto the group as the Jackson State Prospect Group (later Interest Group & Petitioning Group) is prefered.
Eighteen is a large group to start with, but it means that service projects can be done quicker, once you get some structure to hang it on. If the 18 men & women don't know each other, make sure that at least some of the service projects are once where you can work and socialize at the same time.
Wow. SGA, Dean of Students & the Vice Provost. That's quite a list. With that backing, my guess is that getting advisors won't be difficult, but make sure you have some that can make meetings and won't just be on paper.
When do you have to decide if you are going to be on Special Interest Council or Academic Council?
What is the feeling on the Pan-Hellenic Council about Alpha Phi Omega? I notice that JSU doesn't have KKPsi or TBS, does anyone outside the PHC step?
Please ask questions....
Randy
