Conversation Tips?

Couple of questions about conversation - namely, how do I keep the conversation going after the first night? The last time I went through recruitment, I felt as though I ran out of things to say the second night...

practice every chance you get. if you sit by someone in class that you have never spoken to, try striking up a conversation with them and try to keep it going. practice with friends and family this summer.

you could also have several planned topics to fall back on if conversation starts to flounder. talk about a movie you saw over the summer, how you think the football team(if your school has one) will fair in their next game, talk about a class you had spring semester, ask questions about the sorority you are visiting at the moment. try to avoid "yes or no" questions.

To add onto what FSUZeta said, I would suggest that you ask them questions about their sorority/themselves. Everyone likes to talk about themselves to some degree, and it helps to fill in the gaps in conversation.

You could ask about their philanthropy, events that they put on, etc. And anytime you see a word come up in conversation that could become a whole other topic in inself, go for it and expand on what was said.

Good luck!

I agree, master the art of small talk. But I found that it's more about attitude than what you say. The girls who are recruiting you have so many conversations they won't remember exactly what you say, but they will certainly remember you if you are upbeat, excited, enthusiastic, and genuinely smiling
