Stanford Fraternity Advisor Leaves for S.F. State

Article in the Stanford student paper about Greenwell's departure.

http://www.stanforddaily.com/tempo?p...y=0001_article

He'd been at Stanford for 6 years. The paper says Stanford will probably do a national search and get a new person by the beginning of the 2005-06 year.

Last week I had a chance to drive around the Stanford campus, and saw dozens of what obviously were once giant GLO houses now occupied by who knows what - one had "Mars" over the door.

The article makes it sound like this guy was in charge of GLOs and every other type of campus group, but the status of the Stanford GLOs doesn't imply he was a friend of GLOs or did a good job.

Stanford has 'residences' as well as dorms. These houses vary greatly with many built specifically (originally) as academic-focus, language and culture, and cross-cultural houses. Many (most?) of 'em were never GLO houses. Some were.

Mars happens to be the name of one of the residences (houses).

California is a difficult climate for Greek Life, mainly due to lack of support from university administration. Despite this, there are many strong chapters and collegiate leaders that emerge from these schools. It's very difficult to deal with a lot of these admins and Greek advisers. I applaud GLO's seeking expansion opps in this state-- it isn't easy!

WOW, I hope he brings great things to SFSU.
I actually really liked Lilia Chavez, whom Greenwell is taking over for. She cut through a lot of the administrative "red tape" for student organizations on campus and was a great asset to greeks as well.
They didn't renew her contract because of politics, however. Which is funny he mentioned those "activist groups" as a reason he wanted to go to SFSU, and, rumor has it, one such group was involved in the decision not to renew the contract of the former director of OSPLD.
Hopefully this will be a good thing for the university and the greeks on campus.

Cool!

I am a SFSU alum, Previous BSU chair and OSPLD Employee (Pre Lilia Chavez though I heard the was great). The Students are very Interesting and Imaginative in their Efforts ( I loved it! )

I might have to go visit. This guy sounds great.

The administration, however is sometimes more of a problem than the Students.

If any one is a student there, Tell him to look out...
