Omega Psi Phi recently held its 80th Grand Conclave in Las Vegas, NV, at the Caesar's Palace Hotel. It was the largest Grand Conclave in history, in terms of registrants. The following are some of the individual and chapter recipients of awards and scholarships.
International Scholar of the Year Award: Bro. Derek Fitzgerald, Alpha Chapter (Howard Univ.). He was graduated with honors recently with a B.S. in Biology (Pre-Med). He was a members of the College of Arts & Sciences Honors Program. He will matriculate at Meharry Medical College in the Fall for his MD degree.
Founders' Memorial Award: Bro Stafford Brown, Jr., Lambda Zeta Chapter (Univ. of Virginia). Bro. Brown is a Spanish/Pre-Med major at UVA. He was the recipient of the 2015-6 Chapter President of the Year at the UVA Fraternity & Sorority Awards Program this Spring. (And Lambda Zeta Chapter received the Chapter of the Year Award also at this program.) (He is the son of Lambda Zeta alumnus Bro. Stafford Brown, Sr., MD (Lambda Zeta '90)).
Founders' Memorial Award: Bro. Harvey Allen, III, Psi Chapter (Morehouse College). Bro. Allen is a Biology/Pre-Med Major and a member of the Morehouse College Golf Team. He is a 2015-16 member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, with a 4.0 GPA.

Founders' Memorial Award: Bro. Carl Jones, Tau Psi Chapter (North Carolina Central Univ.). Bro. Jones, the starting center on the NCCU football team, was awarded the 2015-16 NCCU Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Year Award. The Team Captain, after having been cited for the ALL-MEAC Football Team, was a finalist for the STATS Doris & Eddie Robinson Scholar-of-the-Year Award in 2015. The Business/Accounting major has a 3.76 GPA. He is also active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a Huddle Leader.
Ronald E. McNair Scientific Achievement Award:Bro. Samuel Cole, Xi Psi Chapter (South Carolina State Univ.), a member of the Honors College at SCSU, recently was graduated with a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering. Earlier this month he was also awarded the $5000 Robert Maher Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness and Savannah River Remediation. In 2015, he was cited as an HBCU All-Star. He is active in the American Nuclear Society, National Society of Black Engineers and American Association of Blacks in Energy. He has done research with NASA, in China, at SCSU and the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison. He plans to obtain a PhD in Nuclear Engineering and become an academic or a research scientist.
