Things I've learned living in Oklahoma...

Things I Have Learned About Oklahoma!

Armadillos sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Oklahoma.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Oklahoma, plus a couple no one's seen before.

Possums will eat anything.

Armadillos love to dig holes under tomato plants.

Raccoons will test your crop of melons and let you know when they are ripe.

If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls, it bites.

A tractor is NOT an all-terrain vehicle. They do get stuck.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy.

Fire ants consider your flesh a picnic.

People actually grow and eat okra.

A tank is a dirt hole in the ground that holds water for irrigation, watterin' the cows, or swimming.

There ain't no such thing as "lunch". There's dinner and then supper.

Tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're 2.

Backards and forwards means I know everything about you.

"Jeet?" is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?"

You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is.

You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

Darn near everyone knows 5 or more cloud types

You know you're from Oklahoma if...

You know you're from Oklahoma if:

1. You measure distance in minutes.

2. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.

3. Stores don't have bags; they have sacks.

4. You see a car running in the parking lot at the store with no one in it, no matter what time of the year.

5. You use "fix" as a verb. Example: I am fixing to go to the store.

6. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.

7. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.

8. You carry jumper cables in your car ... for your OWN car.

9. You know what "cow tipping" is.

10. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup, and Tabasco.

11. The local papers covers national and international news on one page but requires 6 pages for local gossip and sports.

12. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

13. You find 100 degrees F "a little warm."

14. You know all four seasons: Almost summer, summer, still summer, and Christmas.

15. You know whether another Oklahoman is from east, west, north or south Oklahoma as soon as they open their mouth.

16. There is a Braums in every town with a population of 1000 or more.

17. Going to Wal-Mart is a favorite past-time known as "goin wal-martin" or off to "Wally World."

18. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good chili weather.

19. A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola, or pop ... it's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor. Example "What kinna coke you want?"

20. You understand these jokes and forward them to your friends from Oklahoma.

Can you guys perhaps answer this question?

Coming from NY to Chicago, I thought I'd be seeing all these incredibly hot blonde farmer's daughters. They are not in Chicago (maybe other parts of Illinois but I've never been to other parts). Are they in Oklahoma or Nebraska?

Where do you keep them?

A lot of that pretty much applies to the South as well. I can't count the number of times the words "I'm fixin' to..." come out of my mouth each day.

I can tell you that Oklahoma definitely has its share of "incredibly hot blonde (and other hair color) farmer's daughters". Stop by one of our college campuses and you'll see what I mean

Angry UMM...

I'm from Norman, (Go Oklahoma Sooners!) and none of those statements hold true in the central part of the state... I always considered Edmond as one of the non-backwards parts of the state, but I guess, that it must be...

Sorry, dude...

FUNNY STUFF!!! I happen to LOVE Oklahoma! It's right up there with Texas and ALMOST as great as Kansas. Most of what applies to the Okies suits Kansans as well. As far as farmers' daughters-ktsnake has it right-I can tell you that Oklahoma definitely has its share of "incredibly hot blonde (and other hair color) farmer's daughters". Stop by one of our college campuses and you'll see what I mean

I was farmer's daughter! PLUS, the men of the Midwest are just as handsome as the women are pretty. The only problem is, sometimes the women don't age well-dry climate.

Well not so much Edmond and the OKC/Tulsa metro areas. Go just north of Edmond to ANYWHERE in Logan County or pretty much to any town that's not considered part of the metro area and most of this stuff becomes true.

Norman's a college town and Edmond is yuppie-land.

Come to Iowa State as well. Lots and lots of FFA blonde here.
LOL, I definitely know what COW TIPPING is ... just as much fun as driving a beat up truck in country road while waving to all people you see!

I am in Kansas and unfortunately, most of this is true , unless you live in the city........(if you can call Wichita a city )

I definitely do think that OKC (in terms of looks, entertainment, people, etc.) is wayyyyyy better than Tulsa.

Dallas definitely has it going on! I might be a future Texasan(sp)!!
A future Oklahomian......NEVER!!!

OK but I've noticed these farm girls are usually into the big guys. I'm not talking strong. I'm talking too tall and large - sometimes fat.

I swear sometimes all I want to do is spend a year on a farm and ride a John Deere instead of live in a big city and ride a subway.

right, ktsnake???
Yup. Here's my explanation for that one...

With a lack of professional sports in this state, Oklahomans regardless of if they even graduated middle school are either OK State or Oklahoma fans or if they are just antisocial and wanting to get into fights they'll be Texas fans. I am hoping to get into OU for my graduate degree so I sort of have an excuse

Also, my dad used to take me to the games when I was little. I have memories of hanging around the Phi Kappa Sigma house with him on homecoming, etc... good times.

My real school is a so-so DII team which I also like but they're really not worth trash-talking about. Went 6-6 this year I believe (may be a little off).
