Alums
I know that most of us posting on this board are now alum. So I was curious what sorts of things your Alumni Association does and if you frequent the meetings/events.
The other day I FINALLY got an alumni newsletter from AUSTIN (little too late). They were doing some really neat things like Salsa Dancing, Wine & Cheese tasting, Mexican Pool Party...etc. On top of that it sounds like they are super organized and helpful during recruitment.
I know I'm looking forward to getting involved in my hometown Alumni Association...
Anyone else?

I just sent an email to get involved in the NYC area Alumnae Chapter. I have been out of school for 5 years now, somehow found Chi-O Hooties on MSN, which led me to GC, which made me realize I miss the good times I had being an active part of Chi Omega. Besides, there are 8 million people in this city, I figured the alumnae group is a good way to meet some new ones!

Kathy!
I live in Connecticut- how are you??!! I hope you are enjoying NYC and good luck with their alum chapter- I know the Westchester one is awesome!
Our alum group is tiny but it is hard when there is not a Chi Omega chapter at any school in Connecticut. I think it is easier when you have an active chapter at a school in your state and can participate in recruitment, etc.
So- I help out a lot with Nationals which is awesome! In fact, I just got picked to be in a Chi O newsletter! I am so honored!
Take care everyone!
Love Sue

I WISH I could tell you what the alum chapter did. I emailed them about a month ago telling them that me and my big sis both want to get involved. (I am no longer at the school where I was an active so I don't really know anyone in this alum chapter). Supposedly the info is getting passed along to the pres. We are both looking foward to getting involved though, so I'll let you all know when anything starts happening!

I, unfortunately, have not heard back from the NYC alum chapter. I am sure they are not checking that email account every day, though! They are supposed to volunteer at the NYC Marathon in November, so if I haven't heard by then I might just show up and introduce myself!
Sue - there is a Westchester chapter, too? I should be moving to Westchester when my current lease is up, the beginning of next year. Maybe you could PM and give me some info? And maybe the 2 chapters should try to get together every now and then? Especially for a philanthropic project or something. I was thinking of getting involved Nationally, as well. I'd love to help an active chapter, but seeing as there aren't any around here....No hope of colonizing in the NY/NJ/CT area?????

Kathy-
The Westchester group is huge and really well organized! Yes, chapters are few on the East Coast - but New York does have some. I want a Chi O chapter at University of Connecticut really bad but the University has to invite Chi Omega- you can't approach them.
I just got a newsletter- they are doing a huge New England get together in 2003- that should be a great success!
I will get you the info on the Westchester group- actually- they do things with the NYC and Connecticut alum groups too! Maybe you and I can get some new blood running thru them and get more events going on!
Take care!
Sue

hey from another new ny metro area alum! the move went well, but i am still looking for a job, so we'll see..i also contacted the northern NJ alum group, and they actually seem pretty active, the president said they get together for various events including eleusinian abut 4-5 times a year..i'll probably look into it more once i get settled and whatnot..
kathy - i am also really disappointed that there aren't any active chapters in the area..i have actually been seriously considering looking into chartering a chapter at rutgers or one of the other state schools, and would actually love someone else to conspire with..so to speak let me know if you are interested..again, something that would have to be more seriously thought out once i'm more settled..but good to get those wheels turning nevertheless..

The Atlanta Alumnae Assoc. is huge - about 200 dues paying members. Over the past several years, we are usually super busy with community service events such as volunteering for golf tourneys, wine tasting to benefit Susan B. Komen, volunteer hostessing at the governor's mansion, etc. They also have a Night Owls group that meets on a monthly basis and visits many of the areas most trendy locations and restaurants. There is a Mom's Group and Bridge Group and of course, monthly meetings. The fall kick off on 9/17 is going to be held at the active chapter at Ogelthorpe University. I can't wait!

I just heard form the NYC alum group. They are sending me their fall newsletter. And the first event is Happy Hour at a bar in the city. I'm looking forward to going and bringing my roomie who was is also an alum. Of course, I have no idea how I will pick out which group of women are the Chi-os! Maybe I should just look for the classiest, cutest, most fun girls in the place?!?
Kate in NJ! If you want to treck into the city for it, email or PM me and I'll give you the details! Anyone else have any alum activitied going on?

The Central Florida Alum group is pretty large. We have 2 Chi O chapters here- Rollins and UCF- so we have lots of alum in the area. (UCF's Pres Hitt's wife is a Chi O and so is our mayor, Glenda Hood). They have neat things to do like wine tastings, happy hours, and movie nights. They also get really involved with the actives during rush.

My chapter's Alumni Association is getting together next Saturday for Elusinian. We're doing a tailgate party and then going to the football game. Unfortunately I won't be attending as I have to work (Plus I get free tickets since I'm still a student!)

I attended my first NYC Alum event. We had a happy hour at a fun, casual bar. I rounded up 3 other girls from my chapter. And there were 7 other women there. Lots of different types of people, but there was this interesting sense of knowing them already. Of course, we were all around the same age, so that probably helped, but it was a success nonetheless. However, I learned there are 600 registered alum living in NYC and we only had 11 at this event! Come on NYC area Chi-Os! Where are you? NJ Kate and CT Sue, I think I have your email addresses so I will try to let you know what's going on and maybe you can come, too! One of the girls from my chapter came from CT, so it's ok!!!
Anyone else doing anything fun???
