Flip Flop?
Hi everyone-
Can anyone out there write down the hand movements to flip flop? I am trying to teach it to my chapter (Epsilon) during our recruitment school but I've only seen it a few times and can't remember how it goes. Thanks!

To start, you put your right hand on top of the other person's left, and you left under the other person's right. The easiest way to remember the motions to flip flop is to remember that everything is in threes....you rock your arms side to side three times (right, left, right) and you slap (hit the other people's hands) three times before you flip. The only other directions are to clap, which is obvious as to what you have to do, and flip which just means that you go from having your right hand on top to the bottom and your left hand from the bottom on the top, or vice versa. So here goes...
"We" right, "are" left, "the" right
"Gam" slap, "ma" clap, "Phi" slap, "Bet" clap, "as" slap
"we'd" flip, "like" clap, "to" slap, "tell" clap, "you" slap
"we" flip, "are" clap, "so" slap, "glad" clap, "you're" slap, "here" flip
"we're" right, "sis" left, "ters" right
"ev" slap, "v" clap, "er" slap, "true" clap, "flip" slap, "flop" flip
"sis" right, "ters" left, "for" right
"me" slap, "and" clap, "for" slap, "you" clap, "flip" slap, "flop" flip
"we're" right, "glad" left, "we've" right
"ha" slap, "ad" clap, "this" slap, "chance" clap, "flip" slap, "flop" flip
"to" right, "wel" left, "come" right, "you" left
"Gam" slap, "ma" clap, "Phi" slap, "Bet" clap, "a" slap
"Gam" slap, "ma" clap, "Phi" slap, "Bet" clap, "a" slap
"Gam" slap, "ma" clap, "Phi" slap, "Bet" clap, "a" slap
"girls" flip, "whoo" high five both sides
If that was confusing, as I'm sure it probably was, just send me a message and I'll try to think of a less confusing way to explain it. Good Luck!!!
Love in II K E,
Rebekah

Gamma Phi cheers
I've looked through this forum to see if I could find something what i want on GC all ready, but maybe I didn't look hard enough (or maybe it wasn't there...). We just finished Sports Week (all the sororities compete in football, softball and volleyball... we did OK, i guess, probably will get 3rd) and some sisters and I were trying to remember some of the cheers we did my freshman year. A few of us who went to convention this past summer were trying to remember the cheers we saw, as well as cheers we've seen at Founder's Days, RLCs and PLCs.
Specifically, we want to remember the rest of this one that we saw, and I don't remember what chapter it's from (I think it's SoCal though):
"We're cool, we go to school, we make all the boys drool, we're Gamma Phis" and I can't remember the rest, but it's really cute.
Anyone have any good cheers we can teach our newer girls for future events like this (ie. Anchor Splash and Greek man are coming up... have to outcheer the other chapters... you all know how it goes)???
In TTKE, Carol

those cheers sound good, what kind of "tune" do you sing/cheer them too??
our chapter really needs cheers and/or songs desperately!! we've never been a singing chapter and we're hoping to change that. (ie. we've never sang during formal rush, etc.)
if you can think of anymore.....?
Gamma love!

This is something we do at the end of kick song, it's got a leader and everybody else follows, we'll also sometimes do it during Greek Week:
When I say Gamma, you say Phi! (Gamma - Phi, Gamma - Phi)
When I say number, you say 1! (number - 1, number 1)
When I say crescent, you say moon! (crescent - moon, crescent - moon)
Alright (alright)
We're out of sight! (out of sight)
We're dynamite (we're dynamite)
Go Gamma Phi! (Go Gamma Phi!)
During recruitment we sing flip-flop, I Love the Crescent Moon (we have huge motions to this, which we learned at RLC was not normal), Love Labor..., and a few others.
Do any of your chapters have a specific candlepass song? We lost that tradition for a while and just got it back, we sing a song called "I See the Moon" and I am wondering what other chapters do?

We sing "I See the Moon" (we call it the "Moon Song" though), but for candlepasses we sing "Pass It On"
Let's see, some chants/cheers that we have...
I am a G
I am a G A
I am a G A M M A Phi Beta girl
and I have G A M M A Phi in my H E A R T
and I will L O V E love it til the D A Y I die
I love the crescent moon shining in the sky
I love the pink carnation til the day I die
True to our motto "founded on a rock"
Gamma Phi Beta, Gamma Phi Beta,
Gamma Phi Beta, Gamma Phi Beta
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head that we've used for chant competitions, or at least that haven't already been mentioned.

We use all those cheers, and those songs too (Never heard the Moon Song though). For candle passings, we use the "Love, Love, Love, Love" song (chant is more like it though)- the same one used for pinning of new members. Speaking of, we just had a candle passing and one of my little's is engaged!!! YAY!
Some of our other cheers we use are more like high school cheers, but they're fun:
Give me a big Gamma (shouting)
GAMMA (shouting)
Give me a little Gamma (quietly)
gamma (quietly)
Don't give me no words, no words.
Don't give me no phrase, no phrase.
Just give me that girl,
that Gamma Phi girl.
(this is all shouting and really fast, while clapping)
Give me a big Phi (shouting)
PHI (shouting)
Give me a little Phi (quietly)
phi (quietly)
Don't give me no words, no words.
Don't give me no phrase, no phrase.
Just give me that girl,
that Gamma Phi girl.
(this is all shouting and really fast, while clapping)
Give me a big Beta (shouting)
BETA (shouting)
Give me a little Beta (quietly)
BETA (quietly)
Don't give me no words, no words.
Don't give me no phrase, no phrase.
Just give me that girl,
that Gamma Phi girl.
(this is all shouting and really fast, while clapping)
That's my favorite cheer, but a lot of our girls think it's too fast.
Any others???

The Call
Actually AAgammagirl, we did sing during formal rush up until my pledge class which was back in '96. We sang, sucked, were humiliated, and GAVE UP for good!
I can't remember what song it was, but we'd sing something at the end when we were giving out carnations to all of the rushees on bid night. It was acutally a really nice song. I think it was called Remember maybe? I think it started...Remember, Gamma Phi Beta, Remeber when you're away....blah blah blah blah blah blah, we hope you come back some day... If anyone knows what I'm talking about feel free to fill me in.
As for cheers, our chapter is known for the Call. We like to block intersections where ever we can, get into a long line, do the can can and sing the following:
We love the brown and mode
The crescent in the sky
The pink carnation will be with us 'till we die
We're sisters ever true
Friendship for me and you
A love that will not falter as the years go by
And so we sing our song
In praise of Gamma Phi
And if you want to join us hold your head up high
Cause we are proud to be
In a sorority
It's Gamma Phi for you and me for you and me!!!!
And then, as we go back into whatever house we were running out of, usually out of breath, we do the following cheer:
G with an A with an M
M with an A with P
P with an H
H with an I
Gamma Gamma Gamma Phi!!!

We sing that at the end of Pref and then break into Linger...it goes:
Remember, Gamma Phi Beta,
Remember, when you're away
Remember, the friends you've made here
And don't forget to come back someday.
Remember, the pink carnation,
the crescent in the sky,
And keep truly ever with you,
The mem'ries of Gamma Phi...
She'll remember you...
and then for linger:
Mhmm I want to linger,
Mhmm a little longer,
Mmm a little longer here with you (WOOHOO)
Mhmm this is a perfect night
Mhmm it doesn't seem quite right
Mhmm that this should be our last goodbye (WOOHOO)
Mhmm and come September
Mmmmm and I'll remember,
Mmmm our sisterhood and friendship true. (WOOHOO)
Mmm and as the years go by
Mhmm I'll think of you and sigh
Mhmm it's not goodbye it's just goodnight (WOOHOO)
And then we also usually do our "When I say Gamma, you say Phi" cheer. We sing a lot more than I thought we did, but half of my PC (led by me) is tone deaf.

So, as all of you (I hope) know, I am a Gamma Phi Beta alumna initiate. The song you just posted, Kathleen, is the end of one of my college songs, which is just way too funny. It's a senior song and always concludes our serenades. Everyone cries ...
Once upon a time, a girl with sunlight in her hair,
Walked beneath a dome, and swore she'd never go,
But that was once upon a time, very long ago.
Once upon a time, little sisters said their first hello.
For a year or two, we sang a happy song,
But that was once upon a time, very long ago.
Through the years, friendships we have shared,
How we laughed and played as though tomorrow wasn't there.
We were young and didn't have a care,
Where did it go?
Once upon a time, a girl much older than before,
Stood beneath an oak, with teardrops in her eyes,
But that was once upon a time, now it is goodbye.
Oooh, we want to linger, Oooh, a little longer,
Oooh, a little longer here with you.
Oooh, this is the perfect night, Oooh, it doesn't seem quite right,
Oooh, this is our very last with you.
Oooh, and come September, Oooh, we'll all remember,
Oooh, dear old JC and friendships true.
Oooh, and as the years go by, Oooh, we'll all look back and sigh,
Oooh, this is goodnight and not goodbye.
Ooooh (sequenced through twice)
This is good night and not goodbye.
Then all the seniors say... Good Night, Sweet Dreams

Ah we sing flip-flop too. Actually, I'm just learning it. I don't know it well yet since we haven't done it often, but we just had our spring philanthropy on April 11 (Throw-A-Pie at Gamma Phi) and we sang it there, all covered in pie lol. We sing Love Labor... too and various other stuff.
We don't do too many cheers. just...
G with an A with a M
M with an A with a P
P with a H, H with an I
Gamma Gamma Gamma Phi!
and
I am a G
I am a G-A
I am a G-A-M-M-A Phi Beta girl
and I have G-A-M-M-A Phi in my H-E-A-R-T
and I will L-O-V-E love it til the D-A-Y I die!
As for candlepasses... I've only been through one, for a pinning. so cute! lol. We sang "Gamma Phi Girl" which goes something like this...
Gamma Phi girl, I love you
I love you most of all
I love your sweet smile, I love your smart style
I love you short or tall
Brown eyes or blue eyes they sparkle and shine
(can't remember the words here) I think you're divine
Blonde hair or brunette, I'll never forget
That Gamma Phi girl of mine.

G-G---G-Phi-B
Gamma-Phi-Beta-Girls
Boom Boom Boom
Then you repeat
We love this one!

Someone mentioned a song called the "Moon Song." I don't think I know this one? What are the words?

I can't remember all the words because nobody ever gets pinned/lavaliered anymore at my campus, and the girls just announced they were engaged, but it's something like:
"I see the moon, the moon sees me,
The moon sees the one that I want to see.
God bless the moon, and God bless me,
And God bless the one that I want to see.
I do believe that God above
Created you for me to love
He picked you out of all the rest
Because he knew I'd love you best.
I once had a heart as good as new
But now it's gone from me to you
Take care of it as I have done
For you have two and I have none."
I know the first verse is how we do it, not sure on the rest...I relied on Google for that.
