As we prepare to celebrate in the largest convention in Alpha Phi Alpha history, I am blessed, pleased and honored to let you in on the largest project I have ever been fortunate enough to embark upon. I have been working on this project for over 2 years and finally am able to launch it.
Many of you know me as ADoP from
www.SkeePhi.com or some may know me from when I was co-chair of the SkeePhi Committee in NY. Many of you know me as the writer of As the Sands Burn and some of you may know me from my performance days with Step Afrika. Many of you also know that I am a writer. My new book is launching on the first day of the Centennial Convention, it is a novel based on the founding of Alpha Phi Alpha.
My book is called Jewels: The Story of the Founding of Alpha Phi Alpha.
This book is unlike anything you have ever read as it pertains to our fraternity. The history book that we have is fantastic for giving us the actual dates, times, places and people in our history. My book gives you the dialogue, the arguments, the laughter, the planning, and the founding.
The book begins with a young Henry Callis in high school. In the book, all the founders meet each other. They establish the literary society under C.C. Poindexter. They plan everything, they argue, they laugh and joke. Robert Harold Ogle even falls in love and gets married in March 1906. You will NEVER see the Jewels the same if you check out my book.
The book concludes with a letter from each Jewel to the frat now at this our 100 year mark!
