Getting to know our Alumnae

I'd like to plan an event that has all our current members + all (or as many as possible) of our alumnae involved. I want it to be informal so people can be relaxed & let their hair down. Alumnae relations in our chapter have been mediocre but we're trying to improve. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very appreciative.

Question

How about a cook out? Pretty casual, dont you think?

With Alums and Actives only or (Alums with family and Actives).

Have at someones home, have people bring a dish, chips, etc.

One of our Alums does this @ 4 th of July Weekend. People bring fire works, has horse shoe pit, volley ball, or what ever comes to mind!

Usually @ 60-70 Members come and bring family to make a big thing that evryone can attend. Maybe, the first one you do should be members only and work up from there!

Give plenty of notice and have RSVP! Either ask for donations or have a core group go together to buy meat and buns, etc.

Good luck as we have a ball doing this! I always bring my Bachelor Dish=Chips

A cookout is a really good idea!

Theta Rho has a luncheon/cookout type deal @ the house once a year for the local alumnae chapter to come over & find out more about whats been going on. This is usually accompanied w/ some sort of activity-like going to Keeneland or to the park!

We usually do bowling or a beach cleanup for the alumnae/collegiate sisterhood and philanthropy event.

Cookouts/picnics or some other casual event are always great choices-- just remember to give your alumni PLENTY of notice beforehand-- if possible, give a month, but definitely no less than two weeks (two weeks is a 'local alumni only' opportunity event in most cases).

Perhaps designate a specific weekend every year that becomes a chapter heritage weekend-- similar to whatever you do for Founders Day, but make it a weekend specifically to share chapter-only history. That way your actives can learn about what the chapter was like when alumni were actives. Things do change... quickly! If it's held the same weekend every year as part of your normal sorority activities, then it's more likely to stick.

We are holding our first annual alumnae picnic this weekend. I went to meeting when it was discussed but family trees are being drawn up and there will be a bbq and ice breakers and games. and hopefully everyone will bring their photo albums. so it should be fun.
