Wow. Middle Tenn State

I just read through the online ROCK magazine and was VERY surprised to see that Middle Tennessee State got their charter pulled. They were bigtime, and even a Rock Chapter just last year....

Checked their site, no updates since 10/26/2006: http://www.sigmanumtsu.com/

What a waste. I never understand why chapters do that shizz???? To me, the chapter longevity is WAY more important then humiliating some 17yr old.

Yep.. and as I have said, their former adviser (now Vice-Regent) Tony Maribole is one of the greatest people I've met.

No doubt -- they'll be recolonizing in pretty short order. It is good to see that all of our chapters are subject to the same rules. That insurance is really, really high. Some kids at small chapters might simply be priced out of being Sigma Nus due to insurance alone.

odd story here.... it claims that nationals did the be-heading, even tho the campus itself had no problems with them:

It's always the other way around isn't it?

Very confusing...

Dr. Bob Glenn, MTSU vice president for Student Affairs and vice provost for Enrollment Management said the university will work hard to try to keep the house open and occupied.

“The chapter is fighting the decision, and we support the chapter,” the vice president said. “They’re [the national office] going from not doing anything to revoking their charter in one step. We think it’s a bad idea. But we’re going into uncharted waters here,” he added.
Glenn said once the hazers are identified, they could face expulsion from the fraternity, university discipline, and perhaps even legal action since hazing is against the law.

I've often thought that nationals pulls the trigger awful quick on hazing. I guess it's a good thing, but mistakes get made. Looks like a sweet house!

Wow... glad to see that they're back in town. They have a pretty good chapter up there and their house is really nice. So, has no one else appealed it before or are they simply the first to win?

I would think appeals have been lobbied, just that they were the first to win.

I said long ago that their loss of charter seemed very odd and uncalled for. What confused me was that the University leadership, all the way to the president said that they didn't find anything that justified booting them. But SN nationals had other ideas. Glad to see they get to comeback so quickly.

If anyone from MTSU is checking this site, please let us know what's going on.

Thanks.

One of our bros from my chapter was telling me earlier that he was SHOCKED to hear the MTSU charter got pulled. Carl was there when they were awarded Rock Chapter, and hung out with the guys from MTSU that were at Grand Chapter... seems to be the general consensus that Nationals jumped the gun on this one?

Perhaps this is the influence of the new batch of Collegiate Grandcouncilmen that were chosen at College of Chaptes?

It's unfair to speculate. None of us knows what's going on here. Fortunately, they have another chance. I'm sure that they'll be fine.

Volume 5, Issue 10
They’re Baaaaack!
And Already Out in Force
Josh McKenzie
In the January 2007 issue of Letters, readers were informed of the charter removal of MTSU’s Sigma Nu Fraternity by their National Headquarters. The current issue would like to now report the return of the gentlemen of Sigma Nu to the MTSU campus, a mere one year and three months later. With sixteen new members, the newly reformed colony of fifty men is already back on its feet and ready to get back into business.

Chi Omega’s Wish Week, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, was the first event the gentlemen were able to participate in during the week of March 25th. Sigma Nu joined together to support the ladies of Chi Omega and to compete against other participating fraternities in the week’s events. At the Mr. MTSU pageant on March 31st, Sigma Nu was named the winner of Wish Week, receiving $1,000 to go toward their philanthropy.

“We were honored to be apart of Chi Omega’s Wish Week and the great support we received from the ladies,” says Sigma Nu Vice President Steve Disser. “I want to thank all of the Chi Omega ladies for allowing us to participate and giving us a cause to support together as a new colony.”

This past Wednesday, the gentlemen presented the $1,000 check to Pennies for Peace on the KUC Knoll. The organization raises money, one penny at a time, for educational programs in Afghanistan and Pakistan. One U.S. penny is enough to fund a pencil and open the door to literacy in the underprivileged countries. MTSU is also supporting Pennies for Peace by choosing the summer reading book as “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. If purchased in Phillips Bookstore, one dollar of each book purchase benefits the educational cause.

With a first place trophy in hand and a donation of $1,000 to a campus sponsored philanthropy, the gentlemen of Sigma Nu are back on track.

“We are excited to be back on campus and anxious to get involved,” says Sigma Nu Sorority Relations Chair Wil Shults. “We are ready to begin working with other Greek organizations and with causes in the surrounding community.”

They aren't listed on the IFC greek page yet.

But nationals site has them listed as an active chapter. (and has them with 23 candidates and 14 actives).

Also, they have a facebook page for Fall 2008 rush: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...ma%2Bnu%2Bmtsu
