Joining Delta Sigma Theta has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. I've always been active in the community. I've volunteered my time to help others since 6th grade. So, the service aspect of Delta life was nothing new. Although it is rewarding to serve alongside my SORORS.
Which brings me to the biggest benefit I found in pledging DST. I've had a little brother for years, but never any sisters until I started the pledge process. All of a sudden I had 17 line sisters and when I was initiated to the sorority, I gained 200,000 more. And it's all love EVERYWHERE!
Since I pledged, I've lived in Texas, D.C. and now I live in Omaha. I've met sorors in all three places. It's always the same. We greet each other with hugs and smiles...sometimes kisses on the cheek!
When I moved to Omaha to take a job here, I wasn't worried about having no family or friends in the area. Why? Because I knew there were 2 alum. and 2 undergrad. chapters in the area where I would be living. I knew I had sorors that would take care of me and I was right. I've been here for 3 months, and they've introduced me to people and taken me out. I've gone to church with them and out to eat.
My line sisters and I are so tight. I barely knew any of them when I started the process. But they grew to be my best friends.
It's hard to explain how it feels to be a part of something so huge and historical to someone who hasn't experienced it. I'm not trying to be rude or flippant. I didn't understand the full impact that Delta would have on my life until after I was a member. But, like I said it was one of the best decisions of my life.
