O'Brien will succeed Leno? That sux

I hope that NBC will find someone better in the next five years. Conan is OK (if he would quit jumping up and down), but he's not the mainstream experienced stand-up comic to continue the Carson-Leno string.

-------------------------

O'Brien will succeed Leno on 'Tonight' in 2009

By AP
NBC announced Monday that Conan O'Brien will take over from Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show." But he'll have time to write his jokes -- the planned succession won't happen until 2009.

The announcement solves a delicate problem for NBC, which realized O'Brien was getting antsy in his "Late Night" time slot (12:35 a.m. Eastern) and wanted to keep him from jumping to another network.

Leno planned to make the announcement on Monday's edition of "Tonight," a special celebration of the talk show's 50th anniversary.

"In 2009, I'll be 59 years old and will have had this dream job for 17 years," Leno said. "When I signed my new contract, I felt that the timing was right to plan for my successor and there is no one more qualified than Conan."

Well, considering the show became a piece of crap when Leno took it over, it can only go up.

Leno sucks, and Carson didn't want him in that spot.

Part of the reason is that Leno is stepping aside specifically for Conan.

OMG I LOVE Conan!! I just hope he doesn't go downhill when he takes over on the bigger show.

i prefer Letterman over Leno. I just don't think he is that funny. hopefully Conan can do better. but i won't look at 'The Tonight Show' the same way. when i see "The Late Show", i see something really goofy. "The Tonight Show" has a kind of adult funny. now it is going to be really silly

The Jay Leno type humor just doesn't cut it anymore. I used to love Leno....but now he's ok. I think Conan's type of hunor is like a new kind of humor. And I think it will work. Goofy or not.

Actually its the [Steve]Allen-[Jack]Paar-Carson-Leno string. The show lasted a lot longer than we think.

The Tonight Show turned 50 this past Monday.

I heard on Today or something that some guy somewhere is picking Jon Stewart to take over for Dave. In that case, I would probably have to choose Jon over Conan.

And, I think Conan will stop jumping around when he gets the 11:35 slot. He just does it now because he can.

Two words descibe Jay Leno on the Tonight Show:

SYMPATHY APPLAUSE

Notice his monolouge RARELY gets any huge laughs, mostly a bunch of sympathy applause to compensate with how shitty the joke was.

If you've ever seen/read "The Late Shift", you'd see where Letterman was wronged, and even though it wasn't really on Jay but on helen Cushnick, Dave still should have manned the helm, not some big chinned doritos shill who has pisspoor and shallow interviewing skills.

Why won't they just cancel the show? 50 years is a damn good run.

Leno completely sucks. Its almost surprising because he once was a great standup comedian.

Conan will be much better if he doesn't change.

That's what is so depressing about this. I remember one time he was on Late Night with Dave (when they were still talking of course) and did this monologue about how Captain Kirk is the only one who gets any on Star Trek. I thought I was going to die from laughing so hard. Helen Cushnick is indeed the devil, but if Jay was too much of a puss to rein her in, it's just as much if not more his fault.
