Expansion at Emory
I heard awhile ago that Emory was open for expansion. What happened? Who was invited to go on??

Emory will definitely be home to another sorority this year. 12 groups put in bids, and right now they are narrowing down the possibilities. I don't know which sororities, but it wouldn't completely surprise me if a sorority recolonized, as Emory has had several leave over the years. As it stands, there are currently 7 NPCs. Over the past few years, 4 of those have consistently made quota. Another group usually does or is close, and the 2 others do not. From the estimates I've heard, there should be a sorority established by April or so.
As for the men...I'm honestly not sure. I've heard rumors from time to time, but nothing concrete.

Which groups are there, and which are presenting? I tried looking it up on Emory's site, but came up zero.
I stayed at Emory while on a job interview many years back, in the ADPi townhouse. It was gorgeous then. Is it still?

Emory has a great Greek Life Web site, including a timeline back to 1869! So you can find out what groups have been on campus and when they left or came back etc.
http://www.emory.edu/GREEKS/index.html
My parents were both Greek at Emory, my mom was a founding sister of Chi Omega when her local sorority affiliated in 1959. It would be great to have her chapter back.
I also know that there was a Delta Gamma chapter that closed in the mid 90's. The Atlanta DG alums are an especially strong group that could support a new chapter.

Thank you!! It's a great site!!
When I stayed in the ADPi Lodge, only 4-5 sisters could actually live there, but there was a LOT of room for parties, etc. It was decorated in blues & whites, with a lot of yellows. I would have LOVED to have seen one of the other lodges, just for comparison, but we just didn't have the time - it was "see another lodge" or "drive to Macon". We went to Macon!
Did ADPi make quota?

i love how 10 organizations colonized at once - that must have been crazy.
there are five groups that were once on campus but are no longer:
Alpha Chi Omega
Chi Omega
Delta Gamma
Kappa Delta
Phi Mu
does anyone know when these groups closed cuz they only mentioned the year for AXO in 1987. Just curious...

I have read that the simultaneous chartering of the NPC sororities from locals was the largest ever. This was 10 or so years after women were first admitted to the University. I have to dig out the '59 Emory yearbook that I got on Ebay and refresh my memory!
Chi Omega closed at Emory shortly before I got there, and re-colonized the year that I went through recruitment in '83. I'm not sure how soon after I graduated that it, sadly, terminated the chapter again. Maybe there wasn't enough time between the closing and the re-colonization?
During the four years that I was there, KD and Alpha Chi also folded. All the closed chapters had lodges, so it wasn't a housing=image issue.

Does anyone know the timeline of the expansion? Are they looking to colonize later this spring or in fall after recruitment?
If 12 orgs put in bids, do we know which ones and when they will be narrowed down?

Emory has deferred recruitment, and only one NPC sorority historically participates in informal in the fall. As far as I've heard, they want to start colonizing this Spring, probably around April.
All the sorority townhouses are very cute, including ADPi's. :-) There are currently plans to build a new sorority "village" right across from fraternity row. As it stands, only 4 girls can live in the lodges. The plan is to build larger houses for about 30 girls.
Emory recruitment is going on right now, so we won't know who makes quota until Sunday. However, ADPi did make quota last year.
There used to be a picture of me on the SDT section of the site, but one of our Rho Gammas was in the picture, too, so they replaced me. :-(
I don't know the exact dates for any of the sororities closing, although Alpha Phi was around for about 8 years (or so) in the 90s. A few years after they closed, Emory opened for expansion again, and SDT came on campus.
Now back to studying...

I heard that everyone had a very successful recruitment. Congratulations to all of the chapters at Emory!

Emory had a fantastic recruitment. About 100 girls dropped out of rush, but of the ones who stayed in, only 2 did not get matched,
