Sorority House/Hall
Hi! I am in a sorority, and at my university we have a “hall” instead of a house that members are required to live on our sophomore year. Has anyone ever lived in their sorority house or hall other than your sophomore year or whatever year you were requires to live in your house/hall? I did not live on the hall sophomore year, and I am trying to decide whether to live on it my junior year. Thanks!

Hundreds of years ago (okay, a handful of decades) each sorority had a floor in the dormitory -- a hall. Most of my sisters lived in their entire time at school. Much less trouble than living off campus, and a special sense of sisterhood. Worked well for our small chapter.

I lived in our house for 3 years. I was on our exec council for 2 years and was required to live in, but I would've regardless. I loved it!

You were discussing in another thread how you feel disconnected from your sisters because you're living with your fiance. Living in would definitely be a way to connect.

I actually moved in as a senior about to graduate (roommate issues and I had limited options at the time, I will note that I started college early so I was not 22 yet.) I was skeptical because who wants to live in and be 21? It was the best and I actually cried when I moved out. Yes, houses are dry but I loved having my "go out buddies" to get ready with. My house roommate is actually still my best friend today!

I moved into the house as a pledge (yup, ages ago). Moved out when I graduated.

Do it. Living in is a key part of the sorority experience (where it's available) and juniors and seniors won't feel like odd women out simply due to their age or class standing. I lived in as a sophomore and junior and never noticed any real social disconnects based on age or pledge class. If anything, living in is the best way to really bond with people beyond your specific cohorts.
At my school, living in is/was the norm for everyone who didn't have preexisting freshman housing contracts, as long as space was available. All of our chapters have houses and my house in particular has great living spaces, but the common cultural thread was members wanting to be close to each other.

I lived in our house for 2 years. It was my Jr and 1st Senior year. Now my chapter doesn't have a house and I believe they are missing out on a lot of bonding and fun memories that I had the opportunity to experience. They do have a lodge space now but it is not the same.
I recommend you live in the house at least one year if you have the opportunity.

I lived in our chapter house for two years and really enjoyed the experience. My roommates and I got along so there was very little drama. Eventually my sister became the chapter's house manager and lived in as well. ( Let's just say she had fun but as house manager she was had to enforce all of the rules, which sometimes could get "interesting.") Since our parents were alumni of the school and our Greek system, we had their full support to live there as they believed it was a safer and cheaper alternative to renting an apartment.

Lived in our house 3 of my 4 years (freshman year in a dorm) and loved it. When you're in a house or on a hall, somebody else cleans the common bathroom and hallways, and supplies the toilet paper. You eat on campus so you don't have to cook.
I mean...you've got the rest of your life to clean and cook for you and your family!
