Texas Tech Dress Question
I'm planning to attend Texas Tech next year and have some questions on recruitment.
1. On the first day when girls wear a Tech t-shirt, is it more common to see shorts or skirts being worn?
2. I've been seeing a lot of Facebook photos with girls in long white dresses. Does Tech do initiation in long dresses, or is that for something else?
Thanks!!!!

1. Initiation attire and other ritual attire is going to vary by chapter. It's a good idea to pick up a white dress for pledging, though, especially if you can find one on a sale. You should be safe if it's knee-length or longer and covers your shoulders and has a modest bustline. If your chapter has different requirements for initiation, they'll let you know.
2. Google image search for Texas Tech recruitment and look for pictures.
3. Google "Greek Chat" and "Texas Tech" and "recruitment" and look for threads.
4. If you are in Texas, contact your local Panhel for information about what to wear. You can also reach out to the Texas Tech Panhel and ask them.
5. This shopping site has suggestions for Texas Tech recruitment. I don't know how accurate they are. I think their choices for pref are pretty heinous, but I like their choices for the other three days I didn't rush in Texas, though, so I may be wrong. http://www.shopacrosstexas.com/colle...-tech-edition/
6. This thread has lots of good suggestions for Pref Night: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=115173

Not sure what is up with dress number 2 on the prefs page?
But the rest of it looks pretty much what I would expect at recruitment for Tech.

I suspect that dress #2 looks cuter in real life than it does in the picture. Metallics don't always photograph well.
LOL at the farmer's tan comment in the instructions. Love them for putting it there, if you're from the north I don't know that it would ever cross your mind.

Thanks for the links. It's very helpful.
As far as the long white dress, I'm seeing photos of girls wearing them to something called Presentation. Is this different from initiation? It looks like some dads may be there too. Just trying to see if I need to get a short and long white dress. Thanks again!!!

Disclaimer: I don't go to Texas Tech, but this is based on experiences with other schools
If there is an event for which you would need a long, white dress, I think it is highly likely that this is something many girls borrow or buy from older girls not only because long white dresses are often either expensive, obviously wedding dresses, or both, but also because it's the kind of thing you'll probably only wear once and not worth the money and effort to find a new one. I have a family member who graduated from a private high school in a wealthy area and the girls there wore long white dresses (not grad gowns, legit dresses) for the ceremony. Most of the girls bought or borrowed from girls who had graduated in years past, and the younger girls were scoping out who they were going to ask for their dress; Only a few of them bought theirs new. Since you have many months before recruitment, I wouldn't worry about buying one yet unless you happen to see an awesome one at a great price and you're pretty sure all the sororities will use it for an event.

I don't go to Tech either, but know people who currently do. The friend I'm thinking of wore a full length green dress to her Pledge Presentation. As I understand it, each chapter has their own presentation at a hotel or something. (parents come, etc...). The chapter my friend is in - everyone wore different colors, but definitely full length. Maybe the chapter you were seeing, their tradition is white full length? I bet you could borrow if you needed to - my friend borrowed her green dress from a friend also.

To clarify Presentation, it's a Tech tradition and a black tie function with parents. (In my day dates were common for initiated upperclassmen as well.). It is somewhat structured like a debutante party where each chapter holds its own function to "present" their new member class. Each new member was escorted by someone (usually a dad but occasionally a mom or other adult important to them) and highlighted with a walk on stage including her full name, hometown, etc.

My daughter had a sorority presentation over parents weekend. (Sometime in October) The girls wore long white dresses and the presentation was a dinner held at a country club. It was a nice evening and the parents escorted their daughters.
