Questions to ask during Recruitment

Hey every one. This is going to be my second recruitment and I am trying to come up with question that would be good to ask a PNM during recruitment.

The "what is you major" and "where are you from" get old right away. Any suggestions.

Ask them who some of their professors are. That way, if you have professors in common, you can talk about that.

If they're older than a freshman, ask what her favorite classes were last year/semester.

Ask about brothers/sisters. You may find she's an only child, like you! Or that she comes from a large family, like you!

Ask what kind of food she likes, then recommend good restaurants (this is good for freshmen) in the area.

Ask about the last movie she saw and what ones she's seen that she liked/didn't like.

I always asked "What brought you to UNA?" (That leads to so many answers that starts what they are interested in, in general)
Also, the answer gives you more information concerning the pm that you can tell your sisters when introducing them to her.

do you play an instrument/sport/speak a different language

you could always do the crazy stuff...
"what three things would you need on a deserted island?"
"if you were a fruit, what fruit would you be and why?"
---I'm just kidding, but it would be hillarious to just ask those, just to see the reaction.

We always try to ask questions related to recruitment and sorority life. We are encouraged to ask questions like, "Why did you decide to go through recruitment?" and "What interests you about joining a sorority?".

We used to always ask, What are you looking for in a sorority, until one year our answer was, Zeta Tau Alpha. Somehow that girl ended up as an ADPi anyway! It was hillarious

At the Chi O house I was asked "If you were going to be a piece of furniture what would you be and why?"
I stood speechless for a second.
Exactly what the hell kind of question is that?
I tried to stammer out an answer but I was blown away by such a stupid question.
One of the reasons I didn't go back was that question.

Rusher's question to AXiD670: "Describe yourself with one word."
AXiD670's answer: "Annoyed."

I didn't like them and was only attending their party b/c I had to -- they were one of two groups I knew I didn't want going into Rush, and was planning on dropping them after that night.

I got invited back the next day.

Ask about high school activities if you're talking to a freshman. People LOVE talking about themselves and their achievements. You might find out intersting things. Like I found out a girl was a champion horseback rider in high school.

Ask "Do anything fun over the summer?" Even if their answer is "I just worked", you can ask where and that might lead to a conversation. I found out a girl worked at a restaurant in Cincy that I loved.

"Why did you choose Kent State?"- This question yields alot of very interesting answers and opens up conversation.

If someone is a transfer, it's nice to ask what school they came from.

Ask what their major is AND why they chose it. That opens people up to talking about something they are obviously passionate about.

"Why did you decide to go through recruitment?'- Good question, opens up to talking about your chapter.

This is my first recruitment on the other side, so I'm glad this is a topic.

Our chapter workshops have been installing in our brains to ask "open ended questions"... don't ask questions that will end up in a yes or no format.

And our girls said that asking questions like "what dorm are you in?" or "are you a freshmen?" end up in bad results. Or at least in my chapter it does.
