New Member question

Hi ladies,

Sorry to crash, but my little sister is a new member of Alpha Sigma Alpha at Drexel University. She is so exited to be part of your sisterhood.

I really want to get her some ASA gear to congratulate her on her bid. But I wasn't sure if ASA allows new members to wear letters, or if I should get her something with the letters spelled out.

I tried looking on your national website and on the Drexel chapter's website (and here on GC), but I couldn't find anything about this. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

yay for new ASAs!!

Letters are OK, but skip the crest for now.

However, what campus norms dictate might be another story. That is, if none of the other groups at Drexel are wearing letters when they're new members, I doubt our NMs will want to either. But they are definitely allowed per national rules.

That was a nice ambiguous response.

From hjgreek.com:

It's a good option if you aren't sure whether NMs wear letters or not on that campus. Like 33 said, it's allowed nationally, so there's no problem if you do want to get her letters.

As an alum, I'm kinda partial to it...

An ASA would recognize it, but it doesn't scream "I haven't gotten over my college days..."

Hoping this is replying right.
Anyway I've been registered to GreekChat for a while but haven't posted.
Yaaaaaaay for Nu Nu's incoming fall class.
They seem like such great girls.

The girls are not allowed to wear letters until they have been initiated as a sister (currently they are just new members), which will be in a few months (they are asked not to wear letters as a courtesy until they are initiated), but like it has been said, nationally it's ok.
They currently have shirts that say Alpha Sig on the front and aspire, seek, attain on the back so I'm not completely sure if they are allowed to get/wear items that say Alpha Sigma Alpha on them. NuNu is big on ladybugs though so that would be a safe bet if you wanted to get her something (like a charm, or a necklace) but stay away from letters since they'd have to wait a while to wear them.

I was going to recommend ladybugs too, but I didn't know if the chapter was into them - some chapters are, and some aren't. But if this one is - go bug wild. (That's probably the lamest thing I have ever said on here.)

Well, it's a good thing they like ladybugs, because I just bought this for my sister:
