Theta Phi Alpha at High Point University?

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to do some research on my grandmother who died in 1970. I was told that she was a member of Theta Phi Alpha at High Point University. Was there ever a colony or chapter of Theta Phi Alpha at High Point? I can't seem to find any evidence that would support what my family told me.

here's a list of all of the chapters there's ever been. I can't see high point, but maybe i'm overlooking it?

I looked into it and I can't find anything on her!! I don't even see any chapters (past or present) at High Point.

It looks like NPC sorority life at HPU came pretty late in your grandmother's life. Are you sure she attended High Point? Otherwise, it seems very unlikely that she was in an NPC sorority.

I don't know much about Theta Phi Alpha or High Point, but I was wondering if perhaps your grandmother was in a similarly named local.

What happens when a local is absorbed by an NPC Chapter? Are the records merged?

That all depends on the school, the local, and the national.

I'm betting her grandma was in Theta Alpha Phi or some similarly-named local...or even a local named Theta Phi Alpha. I found a 1950s yearbook from my college and there was a local fraternity named Alpha Phi Alpha...and it definitely was not affiliated with the national organization of the same name, even though the national did exist at the time.

If the OP could get her hands on a yearbook from when her grandmother was enrolled, I bet the mystery would be solved.

This may not be the appropriate year, but I found this by googling High Point College Yearbook. Pretty sure they were HPC before High Point University. You could contact their library.

I was looking at the 1950 yearbook because I guess I'm a closeted stalker. There was an org called Alpha Theta Psi and one called Theta Phi, which are pretty close. Also, there is a Sigma Alpha Phi, which isn't really that far off the mark, either. What would be interesting to find out is what national orgs these groups became a part of. I imagine from the founding dates that the nationals absorbed the locals.
