I NEED HELP!
Hi girls!!!
I was wondering if anyone knew any good ADpi wedding traditions? You know, songs or anything like that. One of our sorority sisters is getting married in July and since I am somewhat new, I am not sure how this is all supposed to go! I would love to get ideas from you guys!
Thanks so much honeychile for directing me here!

So I have been to many an ADPi wedding and the most common traditions I've seen: 1) make sure the bride has something blue or add some violets to her bouquet 2) all the ADPis in attendance get together at the reception and circle around the bride and serenade her with ADPi songs... which song will likely depend on those that your/her chapter used but common ones I've heard are "God Gave the Wisemen" or "When You are an Alpha Delta"...
And for those who have been through Jewel Degree, a common verse used in weddings is a theme in Jewel Degree and a framed copy of it was given to me by a sister for my wedding (which of course my husband didn't quite understand the hidden sentiment but I got it immediately and loved it!!!)

Every ADPi wedding I have been to, the sisters circle bride and serenade her with a song. When my roomie got married, there were about 15 ADPi's there. We circled her and sang "Little ADPi" in rounds.
The entrance to the B&B where she got married is "guarded" by a pair of stone lions, so we took a group photo, there, too.
She also had the church choir perform the 15th Psalm.
You can start a tradition in your chapter where new members receive a garter on initation day that they can use for their wedding day as their something old. My friend's KD chapter does this.
You can also volunteer to give her your pin as her something borrowed to wear during the ceremony.

I love that garter idea! Especially since our colors are on the traditional blue & white garter!
If there are going to be more than a couple ADPis there, two sisters can stand at the doorway, and hand a silk violet with blue & white ribbons out to the sisters - but be sure to have some extras! You never know when you'll find some more "mature" sisters!
Every ADPi wedding I've ever been to has had the circle with a serenade. We usually use "When you love an Alpha Delta" and "Remember". At mine, the ADPi tables had blue decorations, instead of the other colors. I wore my pin (with sapphire points) as the something old & something blue.
And one last item I just heard of was taking pictures "thru" the < > fingers of two sisters. You can see the fingers and the newly married couple, and also of a sister with them. It looked really cute!

We also do one in addition to serenading the bride - we serenade the groom. We form a circle - bride included in the circle - and put him in the middle and sing "Put Him in a Corner" (what we sing during candle passings - well, before they were outlawed). One by one we go around the circle and step in to kiss the cheek of the groom - or hug him if we don't know him that well. The last one to go to the middle is the bride, who gives him a good kiss.
The boys seem to like it.

Can we change the name of this thread to ADPi wedding traditions for easy reference later on?
Any other ideas for wedding traditions?
If you have extra money for flowers, you could have a special corsage made for sisters in attendance. You could also have special reserved seating for sisters at the ceremony.
A group photo is a must
Embroider a hankie with the woodland violet and give it to the bride for the ceremony-- you know there will be a lot of happy tears!

If you're planning a wedding, maybe one of the desserts you can have at your wedding or rehearsal can be diamond-shaped cookies or pastries? Or a cake topped with edible violets.

I may have mentioned this before, but THE most GLO-oriented wedding I went to was one of my chapter sisters & an SAE. They had 625 people at their wedding!
Their cake was amazing - two diamond shaped bottoms, with the full stars, clasped hands, Minerva, etc, going up for 3-4 layers, then a staircase with her 12 bridesmaids & his 12 groomsmen going up to connect to a third set of tiers, also diamond shaped! I really need to find a picture of that - it was incredible!!

This has nothing to do with ADPi, per se, but I saw a really cool DIY bouquet made of herbs and a few roses-- it was so pretty and I think it would smell great-- imagine having lavendar and rosemary in your bouquet! ETA: and mint!!!

I just went to a wedding where the bride was a Theta. On the cards that told you where to sit she had put a kite on everyone that was a Theta. She also had a song with just the Thetas during the reception where they sang "Man I feel like a Theta."
One of my sisters borrowed my badge for her wedding so that she would have her something borrowed or something blue because mine is the pearl and saphire alternating one.

I am going to an ADPi wedding soon and I LOVE the idea of doing this - except for the part where I never learned the "Put Him in a Corner" song!
Would this be on the ADPi song CD or does anyone have the lyrics?
Thanks Ladies!
