Arrests at U. of New Hampshire (Underage Drinking, etc.)

Over the Labor Day weekend alcohol-related arrests occurred at a U. of New Hampshire fraternity as well as at a non-fraternity party. Other students were arrested on drug and alcohol charges, too.

Local paper article:

A few excerpts:

Police arrested 110 people, more than half students, this past holiday weekend for a plethora of alcohol and drug related charges. In addition three men and one fraternity house were cited for hosting under-age drinking parties.

A team of detectives from Durham and University of New Hampshire police and the state Liquor Commission cited the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity . . . Sept. 3 at 1:18 a.m. . . . The fraternity is recognized by the UNH Greek system.

Police also arrested Aris Dimitrakopoulos, 22, Alden J. Palmer II, 21, and Patrick K. Sweezey, 23, all of 5A Madbury Court, for hosting a party with under-age drinking at their residence.

Six people at Lambda Chi and seven at Madbury Court were taken into police custody for underage possession of alcohol . . . .

Police and fire department officials also broke up two "severely overcrowded" parties at . . . Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and . . . Phi Kappa Sigma . . . . Both fraternities are not recognized by the UNH Greek system. . . .

Police arrest 29 on first weekend at UNH

:Editor's note: Staff Writer Marcus Weisgerber rode with Durham police officers during Saturday night's midnight shift.

DURHAM — It didn't take long for some University of New Hampshire students to end up in the booking room of both the Durham and university police departments.
Police arrested 29 people, some of whom were students, Saturday night and early Sunday morning just a day after freshmen moved into campus residence halls.
The night was filled with the typical alcohol-related arrests, such as unlawful possession, unlawful transportation and DWI. A fire, a fight and a search for a student who escaped from police custody all occurred within a 3[1/2]-hour span.
Just before 10:30 p.m., Deputy Police Chief Rene Kelley responded to Madbury Road where two bicycle officers, Detective Gabe Tarrants and Officer Holly Rouleau, had two people under arrest in front of Tudor Hall. Upon arriving several students pointed out flames coming from a trash bin behind the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity next to the site of the arrest. The ]fraternity is not recognized by the university Greek System.
A couch and chair adjacent to the dumpster were engulfed in flames as the fire began to spread to the dumpster and a red Ford Ranger parked nearby. As the Fire Department responded with an engine, the windows and tires on the Ranger blew out, and an explosion came from under the front-end of the small pickup.
