Question What instrument did you play...

when you were in high and/or middle school?

I'm representing for all of the clarinets!!

One more question... Do you think you can still play a song? (Drummers don't count !)

Silver Turtle, my brother plays the Tuba I used to play the Viola. I also play the piano. I continued with the piano because it didn't sound like I was torturing an animal. LOL. I'm also learning how to play guitar.

You all are so lucky. I always wanted to learn an instrument as a child, but my parents could never afford it and there were no school-sponsored free lessons where I lived. I envy you.

OH. ANOTHER CLARINET RIGHT HERE!!! I think I can still play 'Under The Sea', and maybe that one Grand Overture that I can't remember the name of. I probably WOULDN'T play them, but I could if I wanted to.

mwedzi,

It's not too late if you want to learn to play an instrument. I'm 23 and I've always wanted to learn to play the piano. My mom plays by ear (and beautifully I might add ), so she can't teach me. I started taking private piano lessons this summer. People kept telling I was too old, but I didn't care. I thought I'd better do it now while I have the money and time (no kids or husband).

You may want to check with a local college, community college, or technical center. I know where I live occassionally they have a course or session for musical instruments.

I have played the piano since I was 5, I started playing the flute in 5th grade--it turned out to be my major in college, the piccolo since in 11th grade (which is pretty much like the flute, but there are a couple differences), and I know a bit of oboe, clarinet, and trumpet . . . just stuff I picked up along the way. Oh, and in high school marching band, I played the flute 2 years and piccolo 2 years, and marched in the color guard for one year. I was a band geek and I admit it! I still attend high school football games just to see the band!

Cool

Another clarinetist right here! (B flat, E flat and bass)

I can also hold my own on the flute and saxophone and have TRIED to figure out the oboe and bassoon but that didn't turn out too well....... i can also play the piano decently. i used to play the violin but stopped when i couldn't figure out the whole vibrato thing.

as you can tell, i LOVE instruments!!! (but don't ever put me in front of the drums or a brass instrument or you'll be really sorry!)

Wink

I don't want to boast and brag about my music genius, but I can play a mean version of "Chopsticks"

J/K...I just had to post because I was feeling left out.

Flute! (That came about after a year on clarinet, which is what I'd "tested" into. I was bound-and-determined to play flute instead... and talked my band director into letting me try it and prove I could make sounds come out of a flute! Hmm.. sometimes people still call me stubborn. lol)

I have it under my desk and can still play a few fight songs that were drilled into my muscle memory. But that's about it.

(Also a color guard "veteran!" Anyone else have to march in those awful short leather boots with the hard soles???)

I was in the color guard my senior year. I had so much fun, I wish I had tried out before then. We didn't wear boots, we got new outfits that year that looked better with Keds.
