AI in AOII

I have a question about becoming an Alumna Initiate. I have gotten quite a bit of info on becoming one, but one of the requirements are you must know a member personally.

I was interested in AOII in college and when I wanted to pledge, the chapter was in the process of being reviewed. I had even met with someone from Nationals on my college campus, but unfortunately, the chapter had to fold even though we had pleaded to keep it going. The thing is, I graduated in 1998 and I am not in touch with the other members that were there at that time. I would love to become an alumna initiate and perhaps reactivate that chapter at my alma mater.

I have all the information on becoming an AI, but I just do not know any members personally. If anyone can help, please do. Thank you very much.

Hi,
You will find a LOT of good information about AI in the Alumni Involvement section of GC. In fact, most of the threads are about that very subject. I suggest, too, that you check out the Alumni Initiate section on the AOII website (alphaomicronpi.org) - if you haven't already. Go to the "Quick Reference" box, then to Alumnae, then you will see "Alumni Initiates". It will tell you exactly who to contact at HQ for assistance. They may also be able to put you in touch with an alum group in your area. Good Luck, Anna

All it really means is that you must have met face to face with an AOII. Don't worry, Sherry Haman, AOII Alumnae Services Administrator, will help you with an introduction. Once you start meeting people and going to things, they will know you personally!

Sherry Haman is absolutely amazing! As for contacting AOII's, ask for the name and either e-mail or phone number of the president of the local alum chapter near your home or place of work.
Also, be sure to read the AI threads in the Alumni Involvement section of GC. There are great ideas on how to contact and ask to participate in activities.

I contacted a local alumni chapter of AOII and they invited me to their first meeting of the year. The lady that I spoke to didn't call it alumnae intiate, though, she called it "associate member" for those who didn't pledge collegiately. So, I just have to wait now and see what happens. Just an FYI, 'Associate members' are what AI used to be called. . . . they changed the name because 'associate member' gives the idea that those initiated as alumnae are less of a member than those intiated in college - but ultimately they are they same thing (if that made sense!). Basically it could be the same as using the term 'Rush' versus 'Recruitment' - 'Old school versus new school.'

That's great, Sandi!! I was wondering what happened with everything. Associate Member is the old lingo for Alumna Initiate. Some habits die hard. I am still guilty of slipping and saying "rush" and "pledge".

I hope everything turns out for well for both you and the chapter.
