i apologize

Okay people....I still think some of you are being a bit overreactive to my posts but I will explain my intentions of the posts that people are getting sand in their vaginas about.

1) The Great Eight Sororities- I read an article about them. I was not interested in ranking sororities as one being better than the other. I had heard of the Divine Nine before (although I did not know it was in reference to History Black Organizations...I thought it had to do with fraternities). I was wondering if the Great Eight was something everyone knew or if it was something someone had made up on his own merit.

2) Organization Stereotypes-I have read on here as someone saying they would only marry girls from certain organizations. I have heard some very negative things about an organization at my friend's school that is a very good organization at my school and I didn't want her to think of that organization as bad nationally because of her own thoughts of it. I also had a friend who told me a different organization was bad at her school, but knew that it was just confined to her school. I just get very tired of people who see letters and make a judgement right away. Just because they are great at your school doesn't mean they're all great at another school or vice versa or that all the members act the same. That is my greatest pet peeve.

3) the Search function- I have been a member at a certain forum for a long time. People get VERY irritated with new people who bring up topics from the dead. I felt it was inappropriate of me to post a topic that hasn't been touched for three years.

I do not mean to misrepresent my organization or myself. I still believe that many of you are a little too harsh on new people who do not know the "unspoken rules" of this forum. If people get so hostile about it, then possibly the unspoken rules should go on the front page so people like me will not end up hated by an entire forum.

Don't know what prompted this apology, but okay.

I've always suggested to my fellow mods and John that there should be some kind of "stickied READ THIS FIRST!" post at the beginning of the most trafficked forums (namely Greek Life and Chit Chat). I know many of the individual GLO forums have it, so I'm still wondering why the General Forums don't (I know some do, they just don't really touch on GC etiquette).

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the nicest person out there. There have been times where I've been "taken aside" by my fellow sisters (some even by those in my Official Family) about my behavior toward some GCers. While I value their opinions and it's difficult to adapt most of the time, it's their advice that I value the most, so I take them seriously. You mentioned something in the now-closed Open Letter thread in GL about not pleasing everyone, and you shouldn't. I just got concerned because some of your posts made some of your sisters want to bang their heads on the wall. They just want the best for you and for you to have a good experience here online.

That being said, most GLOs have a forum mod out there who's willing to help you in any way. Use them. PM them, AIM them if you're ever having any concerns on GC. They're not just there to lock or close threads.

Please don't let anything I (or ANYONE else on GC for that matter) said run you off GC because I think you really can positively contribute to the boards.

Just try to get a feel for things, and hopefully you'll be able to understand where most of us are coming from.

thanks. I still don't think i did anything wrong PER SE...i just feel as though people misread my intentions and thought "Stereotypes...OMG she's bashing other GLOs!" or by listing sororities I felt that these were somehow superior. This was not my intention at all. And while I do feel like I had people be rude to me unnecessarily and I did have a lot of backing (via PM) from people, I did not mean to cause a commotion.

I feel like instead of people saying "You're too new to have an opinion on this!" or "OMIGOD, USE THE FUCKING SEARCH BUTTON!!!!" or insisting that something I posted about which has nothing to do with Greek like is stupid that people should have said gently "At this forum, we like to keep with the same topics and encourage people to search for old topics and post in them." or "I feel like you are trying to rank sororities in here..." Then people would have understood my intentions when I didn't meant his AT ALL. I do not think any GLO is superior to another...or that any PERSON is superior to anyone else.

Um, who told you that you were too new to have an opinion on something?

Again, like I said last night in your other thread, maybe you should look at how you're speaking to other people and coming across. Your replies in many cases haven't really given GCers the urge to give you a big hug and take you under their wing. People tried to be nice, but you either ignored them or said something snippy back. Just like we don't know your personality, you don't know ours.

Instead of looking for the bad, why don't you look for the good? Stop complaining and do something to change it yourself. Do something besides complaining that everyone has treated you badly. Set an example yourself then.

You are forgiven. Just tow the line next time. Resistance is futile.

I think one of the problems people (not just new people) have is that they forget this site is filled with real people. There are hundreds of users who post daily, and the fact remains that you're going to get all sorts of people (nice, not-so-nice, honest, brutally honest, accomodating, etc.). That's just the law of averages among the general population.

I'm not sure you really needed to apologize or start a new thread. Stuff happens, move on, when it all comes down to it it's a message board full of people you will probably never meet in real life.

Gotta say I agree. If I lost sleep over something some nameless, faceless person said to me on the internet, I'd be dead....

Really, don't give any of these people any power over you. Say what the hell you want...

ETA: One thing about KSig's post I want to just put into a different context: these ARE real people on here...Maybe you should use some decorum and kindness as well when speaking to someone. I remember all the time that we all have feelings.

The other thing: you can't convey tone in writing, no matter how may emoticons you use...So, try as you may to convey one feeling or thought process, someone somehow will get pissed off and annoyed because they misunderstand your intended meaning...

:)

Or you could do what I do and post twice every few years.

Really cuts down on the drama that way.

I think that perhaps everyone should think about this one. It applies to all GC'ers, both new and old. The old GC'ers can be just as snippy as the new ones, but just b/c they're been here for x years doesn't make it right.

*sniff, sniff*
Can't we all just get along?

I really doubt that anyone hates you. Even though I had a problem with a post, I don't have anything against you.

You and OTW are right that there ought to be some stickied post explaining GC decorum and culture. That would help reduce the trial-by-fire that many new GCers experience.

of course, with all this talk of stickies, our new problem would be getting new members to READ them. Oh yeah, and agreeing over what goes in them...

How lovely would it be to have little paragraphs to click "Ok" to get through when registering. LOL! These paragraphs could outline all the things being said in this thread.

You can be so insensitive sometimes...

To be honest, I like the personalities on here. Even you dumb ones, it's so cute to watch you get enraged at the most harmless comments on here.
