Pitt Rush Question for kddani or Fire1977
Ladies,
When I was at Pitt waaaaaay back in the day, we were allowed to take what they called "ceiling plus or minus quota". Meaning that ceiling was 55 then so if quota was 15 and a chapter had 35 girls they could take 15 and then COB to hit ceiling. But if a chapter already had, say, 50 sisters they could still take quota and end up with 65. Do they still do it that way?
Thanks

If I am understanding your question, yes during formal recruitment they can always take quota regardless of ceiling. Isn't that and NPC thing?
If they are at ceiling in the spring they cannot take anymore members.
EDITED TO ADD:
Ceiling is currently 60 but there is one chapter up to 70 some members, and a few at 68.

Killarney Rose,
The way I understand NPC rules, and assuming that ceiling. is 60, any chapter under 60 can COB up to 60. If there is a Spring Rush sponsored by the Panhellenic Council, and quota for that is set at 10, a chapter at 59 could take 10 more members, while a chapter at 60 could not participate.
At least, that's how it worked in my "way back when"!

There is no quota in spring rush. A house can issue as many bids as it has spots left. Therefore, a chapter at 47 could give 13 bids. A chapter at 57 could give 3 (very few houses would go through the expenses of rush for 3 girls! although some do for 5 or 6- why not just COB???).
Although this is an extremelly crappy idea- because there is NO BID MATCHING IN THE SPRING- the dumbest thing ever- the girls could get several bids (even a house who didn't pref them could offer them a bid if they had the spot). So say you are at 47 and you give out 13 bids. What are the chances of the 13 girls ALL accepting? Why not just do bid matching? Another screwy thing about the Pitt system i guess...
In the fall, you can take quota no matter what number you are at. If you're still under, then you can COB, if you're over, you can't. We only graduated about a half dozen sisters, hence why KD is one of the houses at 68 and isn't participating in spring rush. I think roughly half the houses are over ceiling or very near.... rush numbers have been good this past year and COBing has gotten much more popular.
Spring rush this year has the potential to even things up more. Fire1977- any news on rush this year? Since KD isnt' participating, i don't hear any news.

Yeah I agree with you Dani, it is a little weird to only be able to give out that many bids, but most of those houses only need 5 or so girls it isn't going to hurt them, like you said they can always COB, and to a certain extent it hurts the smaller ones. I don't understand why they participate either, I wouldn't bar them from particpating but I would certainly save my house the money and time if they were in that situation, you know? Plus I'm sure you are familiar with spring recruitment and how 50 girls will go to a house with 5 spots. If you want to know which houses are rushing pm me and I'll let you know.
If they did actual bid matching, they would have to let all houses participate because it would basically be formal recruitment, as you would have to set up a quota and rank, etc.
Anyway, there are only about 50 girls signed up for spring recruitment so far, but it isn't until February 7th, so we'll see what happens. I'll keep you all posted.
