back in the day when i was young, i'm not a kid anymore!! LOL
I recently stumbled over some old junior high school pictures of me, needless to say I was cracking up the whole time at the styles back than, I thought I was the bomb, but now these styles seem so silly looking to me.
My question to you guys is, what styles would you bring back whether it be fashion, music artist, a particular dance etc....and what styles do you hope never come back! And lastly, are there any current styles out that just make you question "what the hell were they thinking?"
I hope gumby's and big bamboo earrings never come back in style...as for current trends...I am not for the hairstyles that look like cake decorations!

I PRAY big dookey rope chains (think Run DMC/Slick Rick) never re-surface. I can also do without the basket weaves, the bob (like several layers, not just one), the cellophanes (not hair color/highlights...but BURGUNDY cellophanes). I can do without the Gucci/Loius Vuitton wear (the sweatshirts and stuff). I can do without leather colored bomber jackets. I can do without cuorduroy pants (girls in my hood used to rock the TIGHT ones with Fila shoes and the shirt to match. I can do without rings on EVERY finger. I can do without feather cut hairstyles. I can do without that fuschia colored lipstick every young black girl THOUGHT was cute. Everything else was okay...I think.

DeltaBrat, although I usually agree with your posts I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you on something this time around ...because those leather colored bomber jackets were the BIZZOMB!!! I had like every flavor! and the yellow ones...Oh my God!! I would definitely bring those joints back. (Yes, I said joints) But if I never see door knocker earrings, MCM jackets, and jelly shoes again it would be too soon. What about that hair style which consisted of a part going down the middle of your head, with the two corn braids on each side (God forbid there was a bang)? I am all for bringing back old skool rap (Krs-1, Roxanne Roxanne...all 30 of them...the pre-"In the House" L.L. Cool J...Yall know "I need Love", Big Ole Butt") Speaking of big ole butts...remember "Doing the Butt" I loved that song, even though they never mentioned my name. I loved all the suede pumas (every flavor)...Hey! Where you guys live, has anything recently went out of style? By recently, I mean like within the last year or two. Like I know in Brooklyn it's considered the eighth deadliest sin to rock high top Reeboks any more. And those down filled "Bear" jackets...definitely a no-no. Oh my God! remember those Michael jackson "Thriller" jackets?!? I had the pleather ones...Somebody stop me...I can go on about this all day!!

Sexy Mocha,
Girl you are a straight up and down trip...your post had me laughing! Suede pumas are the bomb and definitely ol school rap is a thousand times better than the stuff they got coming out today. Hey remember ellesse sneakers and when LA Gears first came out with the two different color shoe laces....what about the triple fat goose...and speaking of old dances...does teh cabbage patch and pee wee herman bring back memories or what!?

Remember those blue or green listicks that changed color according to your karma/body chemistry? Boy, I couldn't tell you how many times I got suckered into that one. They all turned red/reddish and stained your lips. My lips would be soooooo dry, but they were like bright red. Needless to say, grandmother was not pleased.

Yall going there?? Lord knows I just knew I was too fine in my fuscia lipstick that I got from the dollar store.
Oh, what about wearing the different color socks on each leg. You know, if you had on a red shirt and blue shorts you would wear a red sock and a blue sock (in that order) on the right leg and then a blue sock and a red sock on the left leg.
Remember Lotto shoes where you could remove and exchange the colored symbols?
Blue eyeliner anyone???
Remember the short tight suede skirts that everyone would wear with the silk tops?
What about biker shorts (knowing you ain't riding nobody's bike or doing anything athletic for that matter)!

Hey! Did you ladies have that one shop in your neighborhood that sold all the fake stuff? It was where all the wanna be's bought they're fake ass four-finger rings and bamboo earrings. They had "gold" chains on a big old round spool looking thing and it cost like 50 cents an inch. Here's how you buy it:
Pookie: I'd like to purchase a dope ass chain, you know...like the one RunDMC and nem be wearing
Shop Owner: What lenghth?
Pookie: Oh, give me 18 inches of that...and make it Panamanian "Gold" *wink, wink*
There was this girl i went to school with that lived up in that store. She had the "gold" teeth and everything. She rocked the Gazelle glasses with the phat "Damaged" suit all the time! Those sure were the days!

Oh my.... the list is long!
Things I hoped I would never see again that have resurfaced:
-bell-bottoms (sorry, still don't like them!)
-clogs
-those baseball-shirt style t-shirts (sorry, don't know the name - the ones where one color is the body, and the sleeves are another)
-hair parted down the center and really, really flat
-platform shoes
Things that don't seem to have come back around (and I sure hope they don't! lol)
-culottes
-knickers
-"prairie-style" blouses (the kind with big ruffles down the front or sides)
-parachute pants (especially worn super-tight!)
-"mall hair" - sprayed until it stood up about six inches from the forehead
-leg-warmers worn over jeans (though something tells me I may have seen this at the mall not that long ago)
-those late 80s/early 90s "sorority bows" - big flat bows on a barrette (sorry - I had to go there - I had them to!)

As for fashion, I only have three things to say:
1) USED
2) DAMAGED
3) CROSS COLORS!
It is a wonder we didn't all go blind!!!!
As for hairstyles: Does anyone remember the hairstyle girls wore that looked like popcorn... you know the one made using a fishnet hair scarf? How about the hairstyle that had your hair shoulder length on one side and touching the top of your ear on the other? Guys with the Kid (from Kid 'n Play) hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh top "box", and later Bobby Brown's "steps" (Don't be Cruel)!!! And last but not least, NAMEPLATES, which consisted of having your name on you herringbone, four-finger ring, or HUGE earrings {do y'all remember the earring with the key Janet (Miss Jackson if your nasty) made popular?}
That's all Folks.

Ok, what's with the Laverne & Shirley hair bandanas that EVERYONE is wearing this summer? Also there is a flowery, frill edged skirt that I remember from looking at 60's movies that has also resurfaced.
Now, I absolutely love platforms!

I remeber British Knights like it was yesterday. I can def do with out guys wearing tigh jeans or jean that are real baggy and hanging down to their knees. I saw some people mention fuschia lipstick and feather haircuts (yuck). LoL What about those big ole leather belts girls used to put around those ugly dresses. oooooo and drop crotch pants from the M.C Hammer phase. Or those shiny patent leather shoes that AL B. Sure once wore. Dag do yall remember Al B. Sure? I remember when I was in junior high we would roll our jeans up all high and stuff. LOL What about writing all your friends names all of your clothes with markers? Turtlenecks with cardigans ? WOW. ooooo I remember girls that would use lipstick for their lips, cheeks, and eyes. LOL. I could go on for days.
