"My name is Rich Crowe, I am the community service chairman for the Epsilon Omicron chapter. Today I filed an activity report with the college regarding a toiletries/school supplies drive that we conducted on October 22, 2004 to benefit the St. Joseph Shelter for Abused Women and Children, a component of the YWCA. We logged 45 man-hours in this activity, and we raised approximately $500 worth of items, which we donated to the YWCA. On October 29, 2004 we worked in conjunction with the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority to collect canned goods. Twelve guys participated in this event, and we logged 14 man hours. The goods were delivered to the Second Harvest Food Bank in St. Joseph, MO, and amounted to 226 pounds."
University of Virginia at Wise Interest Group
..has been recruiting strong this semester. Starting the year off with 16 men, they are now above 25 and will be colonizing before the end of the semester. They are currently working on various community service events, including helping clean-up at a local thrift shop. These men are exemplifying the values of Alpha Sigma Phi and are very excited to move another step closer to become brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi. (The Interest Group was colonized on December 4th. Thanks to the Brothers of the Delta Theta Chapter at Radford University for their assistance.)
University of Washington
We won the Delta Zeta Philanthropy football tournament in October. This is our first philanthropy championship in recent history. We were all very pleased, as our football team is one of the prides of our house. We came very close to winning a couple of philanthropies and IMA championships last year. This year we won the first philanthropy of the year. We will be holding elections soon for some of the more major positions in the house so as to give an opportunity for the future officers to shadow the current officers before they officially take over. We believe this will ease the transition of leadership in the house.
Additionally, Brother Ben Copstead recently won the election for the InterFraternity Council (IFC) Risk Management Vice-President after working on the Judiciary Board of the IFC .
Presbyterian College
With less than a day's notice, the brothers of Alpha Psi - Presbyterian College pulled together to help the College pull off an all-day Christian music festival. Being short on volunteers for the event, the Greek Advisor, Dana Becker, called Alpha Sig to see if they could help. With less than 24 hours notice many brothers made themselves available all day, helping in any way they could. According to Becker, "They sold tickets, took tickets at the gate, sold merchandise, supervised inflatable games, moved tables, and basically did anything I asked them to. And even better than that, they never complained about it at all!...the event truly could not have taken place and been successful had it not been for the brothers of Alpha Sigma Phi."
Clemson University
We are proud to announce our newest interest group: Clemson University. A group of men from Clemson approached us at the end of September wanting to develop a chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi. At that time they had 12-15 participating in the groups activities. By the time we were able to officially declare them an Interest Group of Alpha Sigma Phi they were already up to 22 men! Maybe we should have them conducting our recruitment symposiums?!
