World Youth Day 2005

I just wanted to share that I received an e-mail this morning advising me I was accepted as a Team Leader for World Youth Day to be held this August in Cologne, Germany!! Basically I'm heading up a team of other volunteers for some aspect of the running of World Youth Day - which they are hoping to have an attendance of 500,000+!!

Now, all I need to do is find the money for the plane ticket to Germany for the mandatory training weekend in April and then again in August for the actual World Youth day (which is actually a week - but I'll be there for 3 weeks!).

Just wanted to share cuz I'm really excited to be going - especially since I haven't been back to Germany since 1993!!

Okay, I just wanted to share my excitement! I just bought my plane ticket for the training weekend in 3 weeks!!!!!! Three weeks from today I will be sitting in Germany!!! Even better is that I paid only $420.55 including all taxes for a round-trip ticket from ORD to FRA (mind you, I checked today and that are some cheaper tickets - just a little- but I'm very happy with my flight times and all that fun stuff) yeah!!!!

Okay, so now I need to brush up on my German! LOL
If anyone else is going this August, maybe we can pretend to try and meet up for a bit (I have no idea what my schedule will be like or anything like that yet).

Roses!

About 10 days and counting before I leave for my 18 days in Germany for World Youth Day. I leave August 6th for Paris and then take the train to Cologne. I leave Cologne on August 23rd and head back to Paris where I am going to spend a day or so with a friend from high school and fly home on August 24th!! I am excited, nervous, etc.

Oh yeah, I also received my team information as well as a bit of what we will be doing. I have 4 other people on my team right now (from France, Germany, Italy, and Venzuela!) and we will be meeting people at the train station and I'm assuming directing them to where they need/want to be. So far we have 2 days committed - out of the 7 for World Youth Day proper. This means we have time to participate, etc!!

I can't wait!! Now, to get everything done that i need to around here before next Saturday (I'm refinancing my house and close this Thursday, doing a home equity line of credit and getting some bills consolidated before I go, working on the lawn, house, etc!)! No rest for the wicked?! LOL

Just wanted to let you all know that I arrived in Paris and then Cologne safely last night. Being the person that I am, I am helping out these next two days before my own training and duties begin! I'll be taking pictures and such over the next few weeks to share after I get home! I'll also keep you updated on the events when I am able to get to a computer!

Roses!!

Well, a bunch of us are heading out for ribs in a few minutes. todaz was definitely fun - and I can't wait to for the whole thing to really get going and such. I also found out that what my team and I will be doing is helping pilgrims get to the proper trains, etc - which is basically what I was doing all last year! LOL

Anyway, I'll let you know if German ribs are ANYTHING like American ribs!

Okay, so we didn't go for ribs the other night because we got to the restaurant at 11:15 and it closed at 11:30 (and closed as in kicking people out closed, not just locking the door!). We ended up at a weird American Steakhouse wanna-be type restaurant that was open until midnight. I opted for a salad because I didn't want to be depressed by getting something completely different than what I hoped!

Anyway, today I get to start training and learn more about what I am supposed to be doing and all that fun stuff. On Friday I move from my nice warm gymnasium out to 'tent city' by a lake - which is where I will be staying until I head back to Paris to visit my friend from high school on the 23rd. Sent warm weather thoughts to us as it has been jacket weather all week so far!!

I've definitely been having fun so far and meeting a lot of new and interesting (in a very good way!) people - and more people are showing up every day!

Alpha love,

Sarah

I just wanted to let you all know that I got home last night around 11pm. Had a lot of fun and will tell more later. Let's just say that the bunch of us are planning on going to Sydney in 2008, I'm going to Oktoberfest next year in Munich and a friend is coming over to visit THIS October!

Off to get some sleep, get groceries, etc.

Love,

Sarah
