Why do must non-NPHC Greeks Don't know the Greek alphabets

I was just wondering," Why is it that most non-NPHC Greeks, don't know the Greek alphabets". In many cases NPHC Members can rattle them off the tip of their tongues and most NPC and IFC members struggle.

Hi and welcome to GreekChat!

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are asking. As far as I can tell you said you were wondering why must Non-NPHC Greek Letter Organization(s) (do) know the greek alphabet. Are you asking why must we (non-NPHC greeks) learn the greek alphabet?

The reasons we learn the greek alphabet are probably similar to why NPHC members learn it. It is considered an essential part of our identity as greeks, plus we are able to identify and name other houses.

In reference to your mention about NPHC members who "rattle them off the tip of the tongues", I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean but maybe someone else could address this for you?

That's funny that you should ask, because I was just wondering today why WVU Ques don't know the difference between the words 'most' and 'must' and can't form a subject line that makes sense grammatically.

We were required to learn the Greek alphabet as a new member, and were tested on it during our meetings. I don't know what you are talking about.

I think he means that years after we (we meaning NPHC orgs) are intiated, depending on the person, we can still rapidly run through the Greek Alphabet on command and he hasn't noticed the same thing within NPC/IFC organizations.

Which survey are you citing for this "fact?"

I was able to rattle it off of my tongue, forwards and backwards, when I was initiated 18 years ago. And I still can.

Also, what is an "IPC" member?

Why would he notice that? Is that a topic of conversation with fellow greeks that he meets?

"Hi, I'm Bob. Can you say the Greek alphabet?"

I was initiated into an NPC group 35 years ago and can still rattle off the greek alphabet as well as name our 10 founders.

This is when I become a valuable asset for my apathetic house. Whenever they need fast greek facts, ESPECIALLY with the Greek Alphabet, they turn to me...

When I was pledging a more "serious" group, we did the match test....front AND backwards....I was the only one who could do it correctly.

Actually the conversation starts off like this. “Hi bob how are you, ………yea;…… I bet you don't know the Greek alphabets”. I’m sure that’s what your brain would interpret.

I made my initial post on this website and I get “jumped”. Well that cool, its time to bring out the spell checker. Ok for those of you who don’t know the NPC is the National Panhellenic and the IFC (my bad not IPC) Interfraternal Council, which are predominately Caucasian organizations. I was just asking a question, didn’t mean to get you all riled up. But since I did, “let’s do this”.

I know the Greek alphabet pretty well and knew it before I was Greek. I took a Mythology class in high school.

Then you shouldn't have been so rude, in this thread as well as some of the other threads you've posted in. Not a good way to make a first impression.
