"Male" & "Female" letters

Sexy letters, popular letters, I always noticed there seemed to be letters ore fraternities used than sororities, and vice versa.

Boy letters:
Sigma
Psi
Upsilon
Tau

Girl Letters:
Alpha
DELTA!
Kappa
Gamma
Phi
Zeta

anyone else think so?

This could probably go in Chit-Chat...if it needs to be discussed at all.

This actually has some merit. Anyone read the F. Scott Fitzgerald short story "The Ice Palace"? One of the characters believed that everyone could be placed in one of two categories: "feline" or "canine" based on their looks and the way they moved. So I guess if people can be feline or canine, greek letters can be male or female.

It's really not that weird. Considering that most modern languages assign gender to nouns this shouldn't be that weird. Really English is weird in that most items are gender neutral when talked about.

It seems like few of the sororities have Pi in them
Pi Beta Phi
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Omicron Pi

And the sorority from the movie "Revenge of the Nerds"

Don't forget the fraternities:
Beta Theta Pi and
Sigma Pi

What sorority was in "Revenge of the Nerds"? I can only think of Omega Mu.

The sorority full of obnoxious blonde Barbie dolls was the "pi" sorority from Revenge of the Nerds. Can't recall the letters, though.

Pi Delta Pi. Remember the Tri-Lam's fundraiser at the carnival? "Eat a Pi" -- pie plates with whipped cream, under which was a "suggestive" picture of a Pi.

letters

Well if you can't forget the fraternities with Pi in them, let's not forget the sororities with "Sigma" as part of their letters. For instance, my sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. Even if we were the only sorority that uses Sigma, I think we use it enough to classify it as a female letter or at least neutral, LOL.

Sororities and fraternities tend to emphasize slightly different things as ideals. Different ideals and different greek mottoes = different greek letters. Simple.
