Alpha Men
Alpha Men are on the forefront of social change in America. Although we all pursue goals in diverse fields of interest, we share a common mission in uplifting the economic condition of all our people. It is simply not enough for an Alpha Man to obtain a college degree, still a larger task remains. An Alpha Man must provide sound leadership in his community, being committed to service.
He is charged to lend a hand to his fellow man.

sphinxpoet,
I sent you a PM regarding the link to my chapter's website, which included photos of many of the Brothers listed here. Unfortunately, your PM box was full. I am not sure why it was deleted, but here it is again:

Okay. It just caught me by surprised that living in Humphrey country with active Alpha collegiate and alumni chapters that I had never heard that. But I think it is great. He was a wonderful statesman and a true civil rights proponent. My then church's choir sang at this funeral. *sidebar piece of trivia* Ann Nesby's sister, Marie, was the soloist.

Hi Lawrence Ross, I bought your book when it first came out.
I am not an Alpha, but an Omega.
I wanted to ask you a question. On page 353 of your book, John Johnson says that Norman Manley was in a fraternity.
Was the Prime Minister of Jamaica Norman Manley really in a fraternity?
The reason why I am asking this is because I am Jamaican also.

Blackbird:
I know you addressed this to Lawrence, but Norman Manley was definitely in a fraternity -- he was an Alpha man!

I was watching Real Time with Bill Mahar last night(one of my favorite shows) and Brother Kwame Kilpatrick was on there and he as usual was excellent. Catch it on HBO if you can!

BTW: Rev. Floyd Flake is not an Alpha and also Quincy Jones is not in any fraternity. I haven't gone through the rest of the list yet, but those stand out.

Quincy Jones is associated with the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. And I notice you gentlemen don't have any African Presidents on that list

Todd Duncan, the first Porgy in "Porgy and Bess." Also the first African American accepted into the New York City Opera. Taught voice at Howard University and lived to the ripe old age of 95.
And of course, a Brother of Mu Lambda Chapter.

Eddie Robinson was listed this week as #9 on ESPN's 25 Best Coaches In The Last 25 Years list. What makes this especially phenomenal is that the list includes coaches from all sports, all levels, not just college football. Needless to say, he's also the only African-American on the list. Check out the article and pass the word!
