Alpha Ep Traditions

My various Greek friends talk about their toasts and drinking songs, do we have any? I'm pretty sure none of the newer chapters know our songs or even know we have some.

Other than songs, and wedding traditions, what other things do we do?

ETA: Do you use a certain motto? I'm quite fond of
"The world will grow to count on me..."

I sent you a PM in terms of certain songs, because the IEB and sorority policy don't approve of tying the two together. If you're really interested in learning a lot of these, go to convention.... that's where I learned the ones I know.

In terms of other traditions, what do you mean? I learned this toast at convention, but my chapter never really used it.

I raise my glass to sisterhood,
to love and kindness we find here.
And with each passing day, I pray
To keep each sister near and dear.

I know Pi Phi has Cookie Shines. I guess I just wish we had stuff that was more standard among chapters.
Like for us, we can't use candles, since we are in an on-campus building with ridic smoke detectors. So we have a "Rose Pass"

That's a cute idea! Our chapter is an a building we're we aren't supposed to use candles, but they're pretty important, so we just do it.

I love the idea of decorating the candle. We just used a plain white candle, but we pass it around multiple times: one for a new relationship or dropping; two for major life changing events (job, getting into medical school) or getting pinned; and three for engagement.

Our chapter was very big on the secret handshake, mainly because we felt it was very cool.

Before every formal chapter, we had the appointed Chaplain stand outside of the chapter room door. She both approved your attire (to make sure it was OK) and initiated the handshake. I loved it.

I also loved formal chapter. We did one formal chapter a month, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Some women complained, but I adored it. For one, formal chapter always seemed to be the one with fun candlepasses. We also just seemed to get more done, probably because of the formal tone set from the very beginning. The first chapter with the new sisters was always a formal one. It was very impressive and gave them a chance to wear their brand-new pin.

Ohnoitsjess, if you guys don't do formal chapter, I highly recommend it. It's a really good bonding experience (both with the Sorority and with each other) and it really helps set a professional tone.

On the subject of candlepasses, our chapter always decorated the candles. Normally, the woman doing the candlepass told the Chaplain and her little sister. The Chaplain set up the event, and the little sister decorated the candle.

We did the same arrangement. What song do you guys sing during candle pass?

Also, how strict was everyone's chapter on pin attire?

I also loved formal chapter. We didn't do the handshake before it though.

I just remembered this thread during Badge Day. I found the pin from my pinning ceremony.

Does anyone else do the pinning ceremony regularly?

If you mean like pinning prior to engagement, then no. I even asked my ex if he would do it, or if his fraternity did stuff like this... he said they didn't.

Before we broke up tho he told me he wanted to buy the sapphire jeweled version of his badge so it would match/I could wear it with ours.
Sigh.... the only thing i miss about him was the chance to wear that badge. :P

We always did the pinning ceremony, for women who requested it.

We did one after he pinned me, and I loved it. Such good memories.

Could I get the songs too? I only have the formal ones included in the ritual book.

ohMycron, we are looking at doing a formal chapter once a month. Could you pm me with how they ran?

Could you PM me some of the songs as well? I attended convention this year, but they didn't seem to be discussed all that much. Thanks!

My chapter rarely did formal chapter and we weren't really big on the handshake, but they do add so much fun to the organization. PM me and we will talk about where you'd be able to find that stuff....
