Darryl Kile (1968-2002)

I'm not sure how many of you are sports fans, especially baseball fans, but Darryl Kile, a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, passed away today at the age of 33. Kile, in his 12th season in the major leagues, had won 133 games, including winning 20 games in 2000, and (I believe) was a three-time All-Star. More so than being a hell of a pitcher, he also leaves behind a wife and three young children.

It's horrible when someone is taken away in their prime. It looks like it was from natural causes, but for someone this young, supposedly in perfect health, to die suddenly is just shocking.

Collin

I heard about this on the news...something about him just up and dying in his sleep. How terrible...
He left behind 5 year old twins and another that was born last Austust. How devistating.
He will be missed.

How strange to die of natural causes at 33.

unreal - my prayers go to his family.

Joe Girardi's address of the fans at Wrigley (even through the BOOS . . . ) was one of the most bizarrely emotional things I've ever seen - even shook me up in my living room. My heart goes out to the Kile family, and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Wow.

It was reported today that his father passed away in his mid-40's from a heart attack. Maybe Mr. Kile and his father had a hereditary heart condition.

It is always so sad when someone so relatively young dies...reminds me of that poem "To an Athlete Dying Young". Does anyone else know that one?

Initial reports tonight indicate that he had two blocked arteries in his heart. His father died prematurely from heart disease also. A full medial examiners report will take four to six weeks. What a tragedy for his family especially his children.
