This morning: Madoff sentenced to 150 years

Despite his lawyer's request for 12 years since he's 71 and that's already a life sentence, the judge made a statement and gave him 150 years.

They interrupted The View for this breaking news.

This sentence fits the crime and not the criminal, which is how it should be in many instances.

It proves a point. White collar crime IS crime and it IS a serious crime even if crime indices and public opinion have long slept on white collar crime and criminals.

I think the guy deserves to be in jail, but I also like the idea of something unusual like making him work cleaning public toilets to earn money that then gets sent to his victims with a little note "this .0004 of a cent represents your share of the wages from the eight hours Mr. Madoff spent cleaning up other people's poop today."

Despite not being able to actually make restitution that way, it seems like it might give people a little satisfaction that just knowing he's in jail doesn't.

I am glad he got the full sentence! Is he still under house arrest?

No, he's been in jail since March or April, I believe. By pleading guilty, he was able to avoid a lengthy trial.

I agree. His victims would get far more out of this "justice" if he had to work his butt off every day to try and re-pay ANY of it. Which country club does he get to do his time in?
