Question About Rushing...
So I am going to rush here in about two weeks when the Fall Recruitment starts at my school. I was talking to someone and they asked me, "Who are you gonna rush?" But I haven't talked to anyone cause I didn't think I was supposed to until rush officially started.
I have two weeks before rush starts. Should I go out to frat parties and see what's up, or should I wait until formal starts and then see what kind of people they are?

I would just wait until recruitment, that way you'll be more open and objective. Believe me, fraternity parties are not what Greek Life is all about and you won't see the real people, you'll see people in party mode.

yeah
That's what I thought but I'm afraid all of the fraternities will know who they want before rush starts, whether they are supposed to or not.

Not every guy is going to go to those parties and they're not going to want only guys that party. Some fraternities actually want guys that don't party all the time and are upstanding. Not to say that by partying you aren't upstanding, just that they'll have their events and then your shining personalilty will win them over!

Going to frat parties is definitely not the best way to learn about anything related to Greek Life. And waiting until formal rush to talk to the girls in the different houses is probably a good idea.
When I rushed I was clueless. I wasn't even sure who I should talk to so I checked out the websites of all the chapters on my campus so I could get an idea before going into formal rush what each chapter was all about. I mean, obviously, you won't be able to tell from a website whether you click with the girls but at least you'll have a little knowledge about them going in.
Good luck w/ rush!!

SMSUBear, DON'T ever think that Greek life is like MTV. What didn't MTV show on Sorority Life? The Community Service. Greek Life is much more than parties. It's about friendship, loyalty, honor, commitment, and service.

I've never seen MTV Shows.
I know from a lot of people already in GLOs that formal rush sucks for getting to know someone, and informal isn't much better cause they're putting their best foot forward and you only get to see who they want you to see, not who they really are.
Again, this is PURELY what I've heard, not what I know. If anyone else has any other opinions please tell me.
