2004 Women of Achievement Winners

Chi Omega proudly announces Trisha Wilson and Harper Lee were recognized with the coveted Women of Achievement Award on June 27, 2004 before 1,300 collegiate and alumnae delegates at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, Texas.

The Women of Achievement Award was established by the Chi Omega Foundation in 1986 to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of its members. Twenty-three women have received this prestigious award recognizing distinguished alumnae in the arts, aerospace, sports, design, business, law, education and medicine. Chi Omega Alumnae have demonstrated exceptional leadership, intellect and character through their talents and professions. Among previous recipients are former Chicago Lyric Opera Director Ardis Krainik, Senator Blanche Lambert Lincoln, Astronaut Susan Helms, Tennessee Ladies Basketball Coach Pat Head Summitt and Marriott Hotel Founder Alice Sheets Marriott.

Nelle Harper Lee is an initiate of Nu Beta Chapter at University of Alabama where she studied literature, history, journalism and law, and edited the campus magazine Rammer Jammer. In 1949 she won a Fulbright Scholarship to study at Oxford University and after school worked in New York City before pursuing a career in writing. In 1957 Lee wrote the first draft of her only novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" and it was published in 1960 after nearly three years of rewriting and editing. The novel won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for fiction and was made into an award-winning motion picture in 1962.

Trisha Wilson is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Wilson & Associates, Inc. based in Dallas, with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, Shanghai, and Johannesburg. An acclaimed hotel designer and businesswoman, Trisha has built her global empire around designing hotels, restaurants, clubs and residences. Her firm is known as one of the pre-imminent hospitality design firms worldwide. Trisha serves her community, other businesses and educational organizations by lending her time and expertise as a board member. Reared in Dallas, Trisha is an initiate of Iota Chapter at University of Texas where her mother Doris Howard Gray was an initiate.
