To Mystic Cat32
Hey, bro.
Can you tell me a little more about Pres. Ramsey's remarks that you referenced in the other thread on Social vs. Non-Social GLO's. I must admit that I'm a little confused about him saying that brothers in FMA cannot join other social fraternities, but could join a professional group such as MFE. While I think that ought to be the case -- and I think it will have to be if we join the NIC -- it doesn't seem to agree with our national documents, at least if the versions at Lyrecrest Online are current. The Constitution states:
SECTION TWO. Eligibility.
The spirit of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia enjoins that the opportunity of becoming a Sinfonian be offered to as many men as possible regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or religion, who, through a love for music, can assist in the further fulfillment of our fraternity’s purposes and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America. However, no man may be considered who is a member of any other secret national fraternal society in music, nor can he join any such organization so long as he remains a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
And the General Regulations for Chapters states:
SECTION SIX. Conflicting Memberships.
No chapter shall pledge or initiate any man who is a member of any other secret national fraternal society in music, and each man pledged shall agree not to join any such secret national fraternal society in music so long as he remains a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
I can't find any official prohibition on membership in another social fraternity. Do you have any more info? Thanks!
Fraternally Yours in FMA,
MysticCat81
