Formal Pledging question

Does Pike do formal pledging? My son pledge Pike at William Woods U in MO on August 22, 2005 and has not been formally pledged. I am an Alpha Phi and my husband is a Delta Chi. We were formally pledge within the week of receiving our bids back in the dark ages.

When do they get their pledge fathers?

So far he seems to be having a lot of fun and loves the house;

Just a wondering Greek Mom.

Interesting. Has he been pinned yet? This sounds a little odd since you throw in the date 8/20/05, and today is 9/21/05.

Perhaps each chapter does it differently. But when I pledged we got our "pledge fathers" as you call it, right away.

To answer your question. Yes, we do formal pledging.

Best wishes to your son. He made a wise decision. Keep us posted

Take Care

He has not been pinned and yes he has been a Pike new member for a month now. The only thing he has received is his bid and a bid day shirt. He did move into the house. If the new members didn't move to the houses on this campus I am sure they would have lost some of them long ago. The only Pike items he has received are the ones his Dad and I have bought. He does not have a big brother or pledge dad. I don't understand what they hope to accomplish by delaying these two things. It seems like a bad practice to me.

I was a chapter advisor for 7 years and I am an active alumnae. I just don't see this as a good way to treat your new members who are the life blood of your chapter. It is a small chapter of about 35 or 40.

It is just odd that they have not done formal pledging. Don't really know what they are waiting on.

I hope you are correct about this being a good decision!!! He also got a bid from Fiji. I am beginning to wonder if he should not have joined that house.

I just don't know what to do. I know he should take care of it but I know he doesn't want to do anything to jeopardize his membership!

Worried MOM!

Mom, don't worry. Pike is a great national fraternity; he'll benefit from this the rest of his life. I hope Bobby-the-Don will agree: Small chapters at small schools aren't necessarily well organized. It may very well be that they forgot to order pledge pins in time for rush. If he's happy, you should be happy.

Mom,

Having gone to school in Missouri, I know a decent amount about William Woods and the Pikes there. I would say with very good certainty that he will be taken care of and that everything will work out well. Pike has a good reputation with everyone associated with WWU, so I wouldn't worry too much.

Does your son participate in varsity athletics? I know at WWU, the overwhelming majority of the males on that campus are varsity athletes and of the two fraternities on the campus, FIJI and Pike, the two are segmented into the more athletic bunch and the more scholarly bunch. Because there are only two fraternities on campus, the Pikes have likely held off on formal pledging so they can continue to recruit and complete their pledge class.

If another month goes by and he isn't pinned, that's cause for concern.

Oh, and Firehouse, I resent the statement that smaller schools have unorganized chapters! My chapter won its third Smythe in 5 years with a 3.42 GPA. How good was FSU's? (I just want to rub it in that Delta Lambda was not the best within Pike in every category).

KEPike, please accept my sincere apology. Of course you're correct. Leadership doesn't seem to follow the size of the school; it follows the standing of the chapter on its campus.

KEPike

Yes my son is a varsity soccer player and may walk on on baseball. He was really torn between the two because he had friends and fellow players in both groups.

I had been out on the Pike International site and read you had won an award. Congrads.

Pikes do have a lot of athletes; Several of the new soccer players went Pike; I think they have the whole golf team! Some volleyball players and one Eqestrian athlete.

I hope he gets a big brother soon, although I think he has several unoffical ones.
