Angry In need of sisterly encouragement

Sisters, I think I am about to lose my mind! I love my chapter sisters dearly but a few of them are driving me nuts! It's not even my sisters that are driving me crazy, it's the entire chapter and how things are happening for the worst.

Okay, because some of my sisters refused to pay the $35 per person bill for our formal, EC decided to cancel it. We took a silent vote and the majority of the gang decided not to go. The sad thing is, we were going to have it with the TKEs so it was going to be such a great time. We had the hotel reserved and everything, but they voted before we had to turn in the deposit. Roseball was supposed to be an end of the year celebration...and just because my sisters have been so used to the "GHETTO" formals we've had before, they didn't want to pay the extra money to make it really nice this year. I'm not going to even talk about how they get oodles of $$$ from their parents.

And then today just made it worse. Here I was at home, airing out my sleeping bag for our Sisterhood Retreat this afternoon, and then I get a phone call saying that it's cancelled. Our Ritual and Risk Management Specialist sent in our forms well over a month ago and we still haven't heard anything from IHQ. In the event that IHQ was going to reject our retreat, they could've done so by replying back to our Ritual chair. But she hadn't heard anything as of this morning.

So here comes our Leadership Advisor (sorry, I know I shouldn't speak of any sister like this but she's resembling the Wicked Witch right now) and SHE CANCELS THE WHOLE THING. I can understand cancelling the retreat off campus because of technacilities, but we still wanted to have something, especially for the new girls, so I asked if we could have a sleepover on campus, possibly in one of the apartments. She flat out said no and refused to even do anything tonight. I feel that it's a shame...and our new girls this semester are really being robbed of the whole experience. I thought Advisors were supposed to help. The least she could've done was to find a way in which we could have something done for our new girls. She even refuses to schedule something smaller in the coming weeks.

Have any of you found yourselves and your chapter in the same situation? I just HAD to rant to someone!!!

OTW - hope you don't mind me invading your board. We had a problem with our semi-formal my junior year too - I can't remember why, but I think most of the seniors didn't have dates so they got a collective bug up their butt and decided we shouldn't have a formal. We ended up (those of us who had dates) going to the nicest restaurant in town for dinner and then going back to the house (you could use someone's apartment) for awards & such - that was more a sister gathering so the dateless didn't have a fit. It turned out to be really, really nice. Try doing something like that so if anyone blew $$$ on a dress it won't go to waste.

Cool

Sarah and 33, thanks for all your advice!

33-girl, don't even apologize for "invading" this board!! LOL, anyone and everyone (well, except for 2 individuals and their reincarnates) are welcome!

Thankfully, I haven't invested in a dress yet and I don't think any of my sisters did. I'm totally into the recycling other people's dresses system to avoid paying mucho $$$ on a dress that I'll probably only wear once.

We were supposed to do a joint formal with the TKEs but even though we bailed on them they still want to have one and we're all invited, including our dates who are non-TKEs. Generally all our BFs and significant others get along with our brothers, so that's awesome. We won't be able to stamp our letters on anything (since our attendance is unofficial), but just the fact that we still have an opportunity to dress up and look nice is a real picker upper, and I'm thankful that the brothers were kind enough to do something like this.

I think it was a big miscommunication between our social chair and theirs. Ours wanted a real extravagant one that my sisters were uncomfortable with and she didn't really put his input and concerns to good use. I would've paid the $35/person to go just to go to a formal, but now I can see why my sisters didn't want to fork over that much when something cheaper could've been done. The price has gone down significantly, and I can't wait to go. The logistics haven't really been worked out yet, but they're in the process of being taken care of, and I hope that we can end the school year in a fun and safe way!

OTW,
I hope everything works out. I can only imagine how I would feel if my senior formal was called off. At least you all still get to go to a dance and get dressed up.
Let us know how it went.
Sisterly Love,
hOOtie
