A Story about what my African American female Senior said in class!

Sorhors and Friends of Sigma,

Some of our African American females are really lost! One of my female students in my first block Psychology class is really experiencing the I just want to graduate or rather June 18, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. can't get here fast enough. Anyway, this young lady owes me a 200 point project on the creating, administering, score a twenty question multiple-choice personality test. It was due before our winter break. The exact date was Friday, December 20, 2002. Basically, she has lost 40 points because she is struggling to keep up with her school work. This crazy girl jumps on my desk and states the following: "Ms. Q. I just want to get a sugar daddy to take care of me for the rest of my life!" So I replied with this statement, "girl real men don't want lazy women without a ounce of means to support herself or without a decent education. She reponded with this: "I don't care! I know that I'm not gonna make it in the real world and I will just stay at my momma's house and let her take care of me." Well by this time three of my other African American girls that sit with Ms. KiKi told her that she should be ashamed of herself for being so lazy because Ms. Q. did give us two full weeks to complete the assignment and it wasn't such a big deal. The bell rings and all of my 33 students leave to go to their next class and this girl is complaining and have the biggest tantrum. To make a long story short I go to my mailbox and find that she has dropped off the project today (Thursday). What has gotten into some of our folks?

my thoughts

I am going to give you a typical Republican answer: Why work when you can stay at home and have babies and get a government check every month. Take the easy road.

MY answer is that it seemed like she needed more guidence. If she did not understand the project or was having trouble then she should have come to you and talked it over. That would have been the mature thing to do. But judging from her actions she is not very mature yet.

Sorhor Sigmadiva,

It only gets worse! On Friday, Jan. 10 2003, I saw her class and we are studying/analyzing Abnormal Behavior in Psychology and Ms. KiKi is sitting in class with a very revealing outfit and saying that she is cold. I told her that she should have put on some more clothes before she left for school. Anyway, at the end of the block she tells me that she's going to see "Usher" at "Dream" a night club. I tell her that she's not going to get in because she's underage and Ms. KiKi just smiles and tells me that she has a full proof plan for getting her way. Well, last year in Fairfax County over 20 students from three of 25 high schools were arrested for making and selling "fake ids." I tell you that these kids are working from a very different paradigm.

just beat all the little heathens!

my reply is simple--
NO SHE DID NOT TRY TO PLAY YOU LIKE THAT!
i know i'm a child of 1981, but these young people nowadays are off the chain! it makes me nervous to think what foolishness MY children's generation will come up with! they just get more and more inventive with their ways to buck the system and their philosophies on how to get what they want out of life--a sugar daddy, eh? i'll be sure to keep that one in my mental list of "strategies for success"...

Sorhor BlueThunder,

My point exactly, all I can say is that Ms. KiKi is very inventive. Yes, she did turn in the assignment but I took 40 points off because her assignment was two days late and then, of course, I down graded the project for all of the other mistakes so you know that she was and probably is still really hot with me. However, she will get over it!

I wonder what she has in store for tomorrow because I see that particular class on this upcoming Tuesday, January 14, 2003. I can't wait for this quarter to end then we will only have two more quarters to complete and I can get rid of those lazy seniors.
I really don't think that the rest of society is ready for the class of 2003. Let's pray real hard for them folks because a lot of them need all of the help they can get!

Well, I don't teach high school... yet. However I will say that experience is the best teacher.

Let her hook up with a "sugar daddy" b.k.a PIMP. Then when she's out there telling her angry story at JOHN SCHOOL she will see the err of her ways and wished that she had listened to you.

I know that may sound harsh, but most of the guys I know at my school and neighboring universities respect a woman who is independent and will ing to make a living for themselves. Maybe this is because many of us came from a single mother so the respect is given.

But on the real, once she goes to college and enters the REAL WORLD... she will find that there are not that many "sugar daddy's" out there. Feel free to print my comments and show them to her because if she were to come to my college with that attitude, she would get disrespected and people would think negatively of her.

My mom, and our sorhor, teaches high school; and from what she tells me it seems that if the teacher has problems with a student, then sometimes the teacher will have problems with the parent(s). I would say that Ms. Kiki has no home trainin'.

Experience is a good teacher. Some folks have go out in the real world and experience the school of "hard knocks." Right now she think she knows EVERYTHING but she doesn't. This "sugar daddy" that she's looking for will probaly turn out to be someone that she will regret ever meeting(abuser).

Sorhors and Friends of Sigma,

My girl, Ms. KiKi was in rare form again, she didn't want to take notes on the "Mood Disorder" video and she tried to fake the I'm sick so please let me put my head down to go to sleep during the video routine. Now you know that I had to get with her and explain that she needs my course to graduate so she knows the deal. Anyway, Ms. KiKi turned in her video worksheet and calmed herself down. I'm so glad that I get the day off from those crazy kids because of the Martin Luther King Holiday. You see her block (class) would normally be scheduled to be in session. Thank you Jesus for the holiday break.

Let's just say that I had to send my girl to the clinic today because she was in rare form. She also stated that she is still trying to find someone to take care of her because she can't this school thing any longer. I want you all to know that before she left for the clinic I made her take her Abnormal Psychology quiz and she liked to through another tantrum.

How old is this girl? Maybe she needs to SEE a psycologist and not take the class.

Sorhor SigmaDiva,

She just turned 18 years old during the month of December. I just think that because this is a generation of the "I've got mine or I'm getting mine" syndrome they don't care about learning, being honest, striving for perfection, and the list goes on and on.
On any given day, I can walk by the senior or even the junior parking lot and see every type of luxury car or SUV sitting in the parking lot and the car was purchased for the various students by their parents. They have no goals to work for because adults just give them what they want. I had 20 students absent from school on Friday, because they were taking a trip to go skiing even though they know that the quarter and semester is ending. However, I still administered my Psychology quiz and they will get a very hard version of the quiz for disregarding their academics. What makes it even worse is that if you call the parents about their child's performance they get mad at us, the educators. She's not crazy at all because she is just acting like her peers and getting away with it in some of her classes. However, I hold all of my students accountable for their work.

Soror SS22,

Now that it's May and near the end of the school year, how is Miss Q doing? Has she ajusted her attitude at all? I just hope this child doesn't set herself up for failure....

How's it going...

Soror SeriousSigma22,

I hope that things are going better with "Miss Kiki". She is really blessed to have a teacher like you who cares enough to hold her accountable for her behavior. I am sure she will realize that soon.

Yes! I wish I had more teachers like Soror SS22 when I was in high school. I really hope this young lady sees the light soon....
