ADPi songs

Hey all, I'm new to this so here goes. I just recently had a weekend with some of the girls from my pledge class. And of course when we get together we always sing songs, talk about our pledgeship and all the great memories. Well, we were riding in the car and one of the girls says..."What was that song we used to sing during prefs, where we lit the candles and hummed the tune?" Something about pass it on...and...everytime you came or everytime we saw you. Something like that. Can anyone help me out here.? This is driving me and the other girls crazy. Let me know!

First of all, welcome to GC! I'm so excited to have a new ADPi here!! Be sure to introduce yourself formally in the ADPi Roll Call Thread.
Secondly, is this the one you are talking about?

Pass It On
It only takes a spark to get a friendship going,
and soon all those around, will warm lup to its glowing,
that's how it is in ADPi, once you've experienced it,
you want to sing, it's fresh like spring,
you want to pass it on.

What a happy house this is when we are all together,
as sisters we exist, we live for one another,
that's how it is in ADPi, once you've experienced it,
you want to sing, the love it brings, you want to pass it on.

I wish for you my friend this happiness that I have found,
you can depend on us, it matters not where you are bound,
I'll shout it from the mountaintop, I've come to ADPi,
it's given me the love you see and now I'll pass it on.

Ok, I do remember that one and that was the one some of the girls were thinking of. But, was that the one that we lit the candle to? Was there another one, one that would make everyone, sisters and guests just cry their eyes out? Did you humm this one as they were leaving the house? So many questions... I'd live it all over again if I had the chance. Those were the BEST days.
Thanks and I'll do the roll call

Welcome to GC!!!!

When we do candle passings, my chapter of initation sang "Remember your Alpha Delt Girl" and after we sang it, we hummed the tune, and sang it again... here are the words:

Remember your Alpha Delt Girl
Remember when you're away
Remember she's all you've wished for
And true to you she'll always stay
Remember the small black diamond-
With pearls for friendship true
For memories will live forever
It's an Alpha Delt for you

Why do I have the feeling that the entire ADPi songbook is going to be posted here?

Welcome, Christi! By any chance, was the song the Creed?

Thank you all for the welcome!! Much appreciated. I just can't think of this song. I think "Pass it on" is it. There's just something inside me that makes me think that there was another one we sang. Now, mind you, this was in 84,85 & 86. Long time ago. But, It was such a moving song that I can't imagine that they would not use it. Does anyone remember a song that you lith candles to and hummed the tune after you sang the song? Like I said, I think this one is it, but were there anymore that any chapters sang at Prefs? Let me know. Again, thanks for all you help Pi's. It means alot

Hmm, hmm I want to linger
Hmm, hmm A little longer
Hmm, hmm I want to linger here with you-u-u.

Hmm, hmm It's such a perfect night
Hmm, hmm It doesn't seem quite right
That this should be our last with you.

(there's more, I thought that would at least jog your memory!)

Christi Sue (I love that name!), there's a CD of ADPi songs available through the George Washington University chapter (Alpha Pi?). Anyhow, somewhere around here is the address for the CD, if you're interested. I heard songs sung correctly for the first time!

But then again, we were told that the Blessing was sung to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail"!!

I'm now sitting here trying to sing the blessing to that tune!

Linger is one of my all-time favorite ADPi songs, along with Always

Now I remember "Linger'. Well, last night I called one of the girls from our little reunion weekend and sang her the song. She started singing it right away. It made her happy!! Anyway, I would love that cd for our next girls weekend. I will do a little searching. You know it's funny how different chapters can sing some songs so differently, but with the same words or visa versa. We should all put up songs we remember just to see how many we can come up with. After this past weekend, I can't stop singing them in my head. When we went to the ADPi house and spoke to some of the Pi's we sang some of our old songs and they cringed. You know how we all have some up our sleeve that may not necessarily be that apprpriate. It was funny! Oh well, thanks all for you help. I'm so... glad I found this website.

After all these years of singing the Blessing the wrong way, it's darn near impossible for me to sing it correctly!

I think it would be fun to have a song thread! A lot of chapters sing the same song slightly differently, and others sing songs that no one else does. Go for it!!

Let the Song Thread commence....

...from here on out, post your favorite songs, and we'll see which ones may be sung differently, and it'll be a learning experience!

Always
Alpha Delta Pi is a sisterhood,
You can trust in it always,
You can have it for a lifetime,
You can have it always.

Always, Always
You can trust in it always,
Always, Always,
You can have it always.

**Then, the round!**
Half the sisters sing the first part, while the other half sings the second part, and then they switch!

My chapter usually sang the round twice (so each group would essentially sing each part once), and then finish singing the song together by repeating the Always, Always part.

Next?

Well, I've never seen the "Always" song. What's the tune?

Here's one we used to sing on the first day of rush

Oh when an ADPi walks down the street
She's got that 100 per from head to feet
She's got that smile, that style, that winning way
And when you look at her you'll recognize her way

You'll say, now there's a girl I'd like to know
She's got that Alpha Delta pep and go, pep and go
To look at her is sure a treat, hard to beat
An Alpha Delta Pi

Rock'em sock'em go Pi go!
