Prayers needed

One of the newly-initiated brothers at Georgetown (Kappa-Omega) died
tragically this weekend. Of course the chapter is in shock. Please keep
this brother's family and the chapter in your prayers.

in Z.A.X.

The tragedy has brought the whole GC community, especially the Greeks,
together like never before.

LXA had its annual 5K race to raise money for charity...things were messier
than usual. The KAs and PiKAs (and maybe some others) came over and
cleaned up the yard.

Monday nights are meeting nights for fraternities and sororities. After the meeting,
the LXAs came out to find ladies of SK, KD, and others, including independents,
placing luminaries (paper bag, sand, lit candle) around the house. A crowd gathered
and they spontaneously sang "Amazing Grace". Today there was a chapel
service where the H.A. delivered a memorial....the chapel was full.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday in Frankfort, KY. The chapter is making plans for
a memorial service on campus as well. Its believed this was the first ever
suicide at GC, and definitely the first death inside the LXA house, so
everyone's still in shock. (GC has about 1,200 students, so its fairly "tight knit")

Thanks to all who keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

P.S. Re: Tom
He associated in January and was initiated in early March...I was there for his
initiation. He didn't live in the house yet, though (no vacancy until next semester).

It saddens me deeply to hear about this, but also renews my faith in the other organizations who have offered their help, sympathy, and support.

We had a death at Fullerton last year and I cannot begin to describe the impact that it has on a chapter.

Kids today are, I believe, less accustomed to death than they were in the past. Instead of grandparents dying while you were in grade school, now that is postponed until yoy're in your thirties. Those emotions are not brought to the surface until far later in life.

There was a suicide at Maryland nine years ago and it was a heart wrenching time for the U of Md system as well. It is a huge campus but as you noted, everyone supported our chapter there. In fact, years later I met a greek affairs advisor here in Californiawho had been a student at Maryland at the time and we spoke at some length regarding the death of our Brother there at Maryland.

Unfortunately there is no way to ease the process at Georgetown - it has to work itself out and thattakes time.

What a sad thing to hear about the loss of a Young Man and a Young Brother.

It is so hard to try and figure out the why of losing one so young to the rest of the world when He had so much to give in the future.

My prayers are with his family and his Brothers.

May he be in a better place and look down kindly on all of us.
