Growing up

Does it ever feel to anyone else like you'll be in college forever, but then you realize it'll only be a few years? Well I've been going through that. I'm a bit behind and a music major (if you know anything about majoring in music you'll understand) so even though this is my 4th year, I still have 2 years to go. And then I go to grad school...meaning I move away. Wow.

So I guess I sound pretty immature right now, but the thought of growing up and moving away really scares me. But I know I can't stay in Arkansas for my graduate studies...not for music. It's so scary to realize I have to leave. I know it'll be a great experience for me and I'll love it, but it's still terrifying.

Anyone else feel this way?

Oh yeah.

I'm graduating in December. I haven't even begun thinking about what I want to do after that.

I felt that way for a long time (I'm also a music major). However, now that I look back on things (I'm 6 months from graduation) I am so glad to be moving on. I'm going to graduate school here, but I am eager to get a "real" job. The uncertainty of college life just isn't for me. I would like a job that pays money, not just a minimum wage part-timer that barely does anything for me. Once I have a master's degree I'll feel a bit more stable. But I totally know where u r coming from

I'll be in school for a couple more years, too, and then going on for a Master's or whatever else I can dream up, but I know that eventually I will probably move away from here. I just feel so different than everybody else--I might talk like them, but I don't act like them. I am scared, too, though, because it freaks me out going somewhere that I don't know anybody. I've always had this safety net of my family and friends, and without that...yikes! It's gonna be an adventure.

Graduating in 11 days (that is IF I finish my thesis by 8AM tomorrow) and currently have a part time job as a file clerk and another part time job at a day care. Still awaiting law school letters...but in less than 2 weeks I'll be a "grown up" and I still have no clue what to do!

I totally feel you. I graduate with my bachelor's May 2005, and then have 2 years of grad school left! I've been in college since 98. *groan* But then again, switching majors twice probably didn't help that at all!

AL, I'm actually getting my BA in Criminology, so maybe we could go into business together. Can I be your sidekick? I'll dress up like Eminem in the Superman video, pretty please?

Reclina, I can only hope! How did you guess what I asked my parents for? Are you psycho? I mean psychic?

One of the BEST times of a person's life if you can maintain balance.

I recall that scene from St. Elmo's Fire though where the girl moved out of her parent's house and found so much pleasure in making a peanut butter sandwich and eating it in her own apt.
Independence is pretty heady stuff.

YOU ALL WILL BE FANTASTIC!

Guys, thanks for replying. I honestly feel a whole lot better knowing I'm not the only one that feels this way! And not the only one that will have 3 senior years.

I remember feeling really out of sorts when my ex husband and I first bought our house. I'd been out of college for a few years already but it felt like we were "playing house" .. it was very odd. I felt that way when I had my first child too. I was 28, but had this strange feeling that I was too young to be doing all of this!

That feeling faded at some point.. maybe with kid #2? Maybe I'm just too busy now to think about it? LOL
