What was your favorite LOCAL TV show?
I was surfing YouTube a few nights ago and stumbled across clips of various local tv shows I used to watch as a kid, and I realized that local tv shows are pretty much remnants of a bygone era, local stations having dropped such shows in an era of cable/satellite tv, locally based yet nationally viewed superstations, and amalgamated network powerhouses.
Was there any local tv show you remember and miss seeing? Some examples:
Columbus:
Flippo The Clown
Nite Owl Theater with Fritz the Nite Owl (Fritz was cool as all get out).
Hanna's Ark (hosted by Jack and Kathy Hanna).
Schoolies
Cleveland:
Superhost
Prize Movie (hosted by John Lanigan or "Fig Newton" or Marty Sullivan)
Indianapolis:
Cowboy Bob
Janie
Lexington, KY
Millicent B. Ghastly
Do you have a local tv show you miss (or still watch)? Tell us about it.

DC: It's Academic. i think it's the longest running kid's quiz show or something. That's the only local show i can think of, besides the news. I love the show b/c it has 3 local high schools doing quiz-bowl type stuff, AND they get to bring a pep band or cheerleaders. I still watch it on Saturday mornings if i'm home.

I will NEVER forget when HD Woodson won! It had to have been the 94-95 school year. That was probably the last time I remember a public school winning, not to mention a school east of the river.
I also loved Captain 20 during the weekdays -- remember how the kids would slide down a slide or something?
And Creature Feature on the weekends, also on channel 20.

Did it have a longer run than our local quiz show: In The Know?
Our show started back in '65 and is still going strong. Matter of fact, at many local high schools it is considered an extra curricular activity. I was on the JV team my junior year of high school. Frankly the material was WAY over my head, but after that year, I was done with it.

Some of the TV shows that became national originated as local shows:
Starcade (WTBS-Atlanta) 1982-83
Morton Downey Jr. Show (WWOR-Secaucus, NJ) 1987-88
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (KTMA-Minneapolis) 1988-89
Yeah, they were hokey as far as set design and appeal, but they had that local flavor that made 'em worth watching.

Captain 20? Boy I know you can't be that old! That was on when I was a child. But since you remember Captain 20 -- do you remember a dance show called "Soul of the City" with the Moon Man? We put Soul Train down for that one!!
Memories!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 was one of the funniest shows on TV. those robots cracked me up every Saturday. i was so sad when it went off

Here are some Superhost clips from YouTube, including the final episode beginning and ending of that show (note: you can also catch all the Superhost skits now available at YouTube)
