Boy Meets World Recruitment Story
Hello, I've been reading every recruitment story I can find and I've seen a few that started their stories way before they actually got to go through recruitment, so I have decided to because I am so excited! I'm a sophomore and not rushing last year was the biggest mistake I made. Because I am watching season one of Boy Meets World right now that is going to be my theme!
The sororities are
1) Cory
2)Feeny
3)Shawn
4)Eric
5)Topanga
6)Minkus
Before the end of this previous year I went to the info night and I spent every moment in there that I possibly could. I couldn't get enough of it. I loved the entire experience. From the girls that I talked to, what I learned about their philanthropies and they events they told me about this is how I felt about each one.
Feeny- This was the first booth that I went to and boy oh boy did I enjoy talking to these girls. They were so down to Earth and had such a great philanthropy. We shared a few jokes and laughed for a good twenty minutes and a realized it was finally time to move on.
Next was Cory. This sorority is definitely the most popular on campus. You always see these girls in their letters and they are always so friendly. I have two friends in that sorority so I was really excited to meet them. The first two girls we talked to were absolutely hilarious one of them accidentally called herself a whore.. she didn't mean to say whore but she slurred her words. We laughed so hard we were crying. Then in the same group I found two girls from my hometown which is crazy because my school is four hours away from where I actually live. I spent probably 30 minutes of my allotted two hours here. (it was the same connection here that cory and topanga share)
I moved onto Minkus and while I loved that character on the show, this is the sorority I felt the least connection with. The conversation seemed forced and the photo album they had only had pictures up to 2008. I thought that maybe they would update their pictures to show what they've been doing recently.
Next was Topanga. I've spoken to a few Topanga's in classes that I have and they were always very sweet. When I got to the info night, they were talking trash about the other sororities. I was so surprised. I laughed a little there but mostly felt uncomfortable. I wanted to move on!
When I got to Shawn I was so excited. Their philanthropy was closest to my heart. I also knew a few of them and they are what I feel like are the most well-rounded group on campus. I loved these girls. We were constantly laughing and chatting. They really eased my mind about the whole going in as a sophomore thing. One of the girls went in as a junior. I had the best time at their booth.
Finally there was Eric. People on campus say so many mean things about these girls and I have no idea why. They were so nice, and they definitely have the best house. One of them wants to go to law school like me so we talked about that for a while. It was really easy to have conversations with all of them. Their bid day shirts from the previous year were also really cute.
I know my rankings don't matter yet. But based on the info night it goes like this
1)Cory
2)Shawn
3)Feeny
4)Eric
5)Topanga
6)Minkus

I NEVER read recruitment stories, but I want to read this one specifically because of the theme.

Yay BMW! I got all the seasons on DVD over the past two Christmases and it became a dorm tradition last year to have mini-marathons every Sunday night. Looking forward to the rest of your story!

I am so jealous! I only have season one. I DVR all of the episodes on MTV 2 though. And everyone else, I know I posted early, but I'm so excited so I figured I would start with what I already had.

I like reading recruitment threads when I have a dog in the hunt, and at KSU, I do!

I wanted to be rooting for Topanga because she was my favorite character but talking about other chapters isn't cool. So... GO SHAWN! Good luck, I'm excited to read this story.

Also, here is some background on me. No one in my family is greek and I never knew anything about greek life. This is why I was reluctant to join my freshman year. The only person I knew in greek life was someone that I didn't get along with very much and she abandoned all of her friends from home when she joined a sorority. This was crushing to me because we are really close. Now, looking back, it was stupid of me to not rush this year. It is the only regret I have of my freshman year. I'm really looking forward to the sisterhood and having people you can call true friends. Not to mention having a reason to dress up and wear heels! In all honesty when I went to that first info night it was the first time I could really see myself getting something meaningful out of college.

Not trying to be judgmental but as a parent when I read that I cringed a little. My daughter is looking to rush as a freshman and I hope it will be a rewarding experience for her. But if for some reason it doesn't work out I would hope that everything else college offers, education, independence, personal growth, etc., would offer her something meaningful. I would hope being part of a sorority would enhance my daughter's college experience and be one of many meaningful experiences.

Meaningful might have been the wrong word choice. The friendships that I've already made are very meaningful to me. Maybe meaningful as in a sense of involvement. Not the entire package of college.

Okay, I'm confused. In the first sentence you talk about a girl you didn't get along with very much. In the very next sentence you say that you were crushed because you were really close.
huh?
