That's what we called them, but mixer is another term for a swap. Generally, a fraternity and a sorority get together for a party so their members can meet and socialize. Sometimes it's a theme party, sometimes not. What goes on at the party is determined by the people there, so it could be anything between pure innocence or total debauchery!

They were called "Drop-Ins" at my school.

A friend of mine said that her school called them Swaps. But instead of a fraternity inviting over a sorority for a party, the sorority or fraternity would invite over the pledge class of another GLO. The idea being that the pledges of the groups should get to know each other since they would become the 'leaders' of the campus GLOs.

We called ours switches, my mom called them exchanges But essentially one fraternity to one sorority. (Although we did have several of the small fraternities get together so they could have switches with the sororities)

They did there in the 70's. That's where my mom went.

We called them mixers. Swaps and exchanges remind me of the book sale, ha ha.

Back in the day, it had to do with swapping pledges for a week. It usually ended up with us cooking and planning a fancy sit down dinner for the brothers, and afterwards, the brothers throwing a party in our honor. It was just a cute thing.
