I agree with everything that you said, except this. As a recruiter, when you see hundreds of folk at a career fair it can really be hard to kept them apart, especially when, as you said, you only have about 30 seconds with each candidate. I like it when candidates are not wearing the traditional blue suite, white blouse/shirt combo. Stay professional, but a nice scarf, unusual pin (or tie for the guys) and even a red suit and can make you stand out in a sea of blue. If your resume is good too, you'll have the recruiters saying "you know, the one with the red suit on...she was really sharp"
I have a black and white checked suit that I always get complements on that I like to wear to such events. Still conservative, but different enough to stand out a little bit.
