How do you guys feel about this?
I think its a load of crap that Toys R Us reversed it's decision due to political pressure.
If the eligibility requirements of the sweepstakes were that the mother had to be a U.S. Citizen, they should have stuck to their guns.
"Chinese-American advocates had complained that the toy company's decision smacked of second-class citizenship. They said the prize was supposed to be for the child, not the mother."
So??? That mother doesnt pay taxes. Why should her child benefit from a savings bond? Isn't it good enough that she popped the baby out here in the states so that child IS a citizen?
I got irritated because I saw the news at 6pm yesterday that said they werent going to give the savings bond to the chinese woman's baby, but then I read this article that showed that Toys R Us backed down and finally gave in. What a bunch of pansies.
Someone's probably going to tell me that it shoudnt matter, that all 3 babies got a savings bond - but you can bet this probably just ruined chances for future babies. Who wants to bet Toys R Us doesnt throw this promotion next year? All because of political BS.
Yeah, I'm a little opinionated when it comes to citizenship/taxes/immigration etc. Sorry.
