Question GSS at Lynchburg College

Can someone explain this to me?

GAMMA SIGMA SIGMA (Beta Phi Chapter) is a national service club with the purpose of assembling college and university women and men to work on various on and off campus community service projects. Some of the Gamma Sigma Sigma projects include the Red Cross Blood Mobile, Habitat for Humanity and annual food and clothing drives.

I thought GSS was a *women's* service *sorority,* not a co-ed club???

GSS is technically coed but at many campuses it is all female.

wow

so how many are co-ed, vs all-female? I'd only heard of GSS admitting women to the maroon and white...

One of my sorority sisters told me that her brother was a member at Penn State. I guess they had to admit him because technically men are allowed. AFAIK it's very rare, nothing like APO where there are some all female chapters.

GSS sisters, if this is all wet, please let me know, but that's what my sister told me.

I didn't even see this for some reason. I think there are still some gremlins out in GC...

But okay here's the deal. We are a Service Sorority, but we do have men as members. And 33girl, is right...we ain't no APO but we do have some guys that are Gamma Sigs. And this is because we have a non-selectivity policy.

It's a pretty small number. The majority of our chapters are entirely female.

hummpf a club... no we are a Service Sorority
we had to admit males in the 70's same time that APO had to admit women

most men dont want to be in a sorority to be honest but we are a co-ed sorority

I was going to say the same thing and I'm all the way down here in Georgia!

I wonder....

Can a person then be both an APO and a GSS? Say if both were on a campus, could a girl or guy be in both? Ever seen this happen?

this was quite a few years ago...is there a chapter of Omega Phi Alpha there? maybe that was it. She wasn't sure of the name, I just assumed from her description (women's service sorority like APO) that it was Gamma Sig.

We had 2...

We had 2 guys in our Gamma Sig chapter, and they weren't very well liked. They were the brother and fiance of one of the members, and caused us all kinds of grief. I never understood why they wanted to be in a sorority.... but they did. They caused our meetings to go longer, we had to be "very PC" or they would give us grief.. for example, you were a "chairperson" not a "chairwoman" *LOL*

I don't have good memories of having men in Gamma Sig, and really believe the bylaws should be changed to GIRLS only.

And we did have a very very active APO chapter on campus.

(my chapter was at Southeast Missouri State University)

I don't want to get into it TOO much on here, but you're not the only one!

Technically it's not written in there, but you know we have that "policy"....so that is why.

As I already said, "We ain't no APO"

a bit of animosity?

Gee, "we ain't no APO" almost sounds like you don't like those folks for some reason.
