Fall Rush numbers
I have read the recent post stating that Gamma Chapter at LSU has pledged 86 young men this Fall. Incredible!
I would love to know how various other Kappa Sig chapters have fared with this Fall's rush. I am sure other users of this forum would too.
It seems that most of the people who use this forum are alumni rather than undergraduates. However, I am sure that there are (a) some undergraduates who access this forum and can advise of their chapters' respective Fall rush numbers, and (b) some alumni who still have close enough contact with their respective chapters, or othe chapters with which they now have contact, that they can likewise find out and then report the rush results from those chapters. So let's see some other chapters' and colonies' rush numbers reported.
Numbers themselves can be deceiving. A chapter that pledges 30 may seem to have done well, but really did not do especially well if its rivals pledged 35 or 40 ... unless, of course, that particular chapter previously had only been pledging 10, 15, or 20 men each Fall, in which case 30 would be a significant improvement. On the other hand, at another school with a smaller Greek system, a chapter that pledged just 15 or 20 young men may still have had the largest, or one of the largest, pledge classes on its campus, and/or the largest pledge class in its history, or recent history.
So in addition to reportng the number of men a chapter pledged, hopefully the poster can also report how that number rated in that school's Greek system, and/or in relation to that chapter's previous years' pledge numbers. That would be the most interesting and informative type of report. But even the raw pledge class numbers alone would be worthe seeing.

I agree stuffield. ITs hard to judge Rush reasults without context.
I know that LSU has a huge Greek system and I also know that we recolonized there not too long ago. So i am not sure what 86 brothers means, except that it sounds really good lol.

Kappa Sigma has more than just recently recolonized at LSU. Gamma Chapter was rechartered on January 12, 2002, with 59 refounding fathers [see Page 4 of the Spring, 2002 issue of The Caduceus]. Gamma has had several solid pledge classes since then. So the chapter has been rechartered for 2 and1/2 years, and is already once again a large chapter.
LSU does indeed have a stong Greek system. That is a two-edged sword. On one hand, the potential to attract a large pledge class does exist. But on the other hand, the LSU Greek system is VERY competitive, with almost all our major rivals also having strong chapters there. So while attracting a 40 to 50 man pledge class might be noteworthy, it would not be particularly remarkable [according to the Winter 2003-2004 and Spring, 2004 issues of The Caduceus, Gamma did not do quite that well last year, taking 36 Fall pledges and 45 overall pledges]. So the 86-man pledge class in the Fall rush period alone IS indeed TRULY remarkable.
It seems to me that an 86-man pledge class is really just too large. How are all the pledges going to get to know each other, and how is the active chapter going to get to know all the pledges, in the 60-day pledging period that the SEC has mandated? But this is slightly off topic. I don't want to trigger a series of replies about the controversial 60-day pledge program. That can be the subject of a separate thread if anyone wants to start it. This thread is supposed to be about fall pledging numbers.

Delta-Delta Chapter at the U of Florida has 45
pledges I have heard.
I don't know how good that is compared with the other groups.

Lambda Chapter at U of TN reports one of its largest
pledge classes in history, 42 men have accepted bids. Double last year's class.

I agree numbers can be deceiving - not to take away from the efforts it must have taken to have so many new pledges, but a look at the Greek system as a whole is often needed to see how things measure up, so to speak.
I agree, 86 pledges is a number I can't fathom...my chapter at its largest was around 90 brothers, so to have a pledge class that large is unreal.
If I see any results on the listserve I'll post them on here for those who may not be on the list.

The Lambda-Omicron chapter will be going through rush this week (Tues-Fri with Bid Day on Saturday). (I was mistaken about the dates of rush from another post) I will be attending Friday's formal rush night, as well as Bid Day activities on Saturday, and will Post their new numbers as soon as I can. Good luck to all the Kappa Sigma chapters during Rush this fall!!!!!

Good luck to Lambda-Omicron during rush...I can't believe it's that time of year already (although we all know rush is 365 days a year).

How credible is the source of your report that Aplha-Pi chapter at Wabash College pledged 15 men? If tit is accurate, it is very disappointing news. 15 is a small Fall pledge class for Wabash fraternities, and I believe that Alpha-Pi's Fall pledge classes have been over 20, sometimeswell over 20, in recent years. If Alpha-Pi did pledge only 15, that would be a major disappointment. WGM Kaplan loves to boast of the success of Champion Quest, but that's one Champion Quest result he won't be able to crow about.
Hopefully, however, the 15 figure is incorrect or incomplete, with more Fall pledges to come.
I checked the Alpha-Pi website, but it does not as yet provide any Fall Rush results.

Last year they ended up initiating around 13 guys, so the 15 is an improvement. This was heard from one of the brothers who is currently a sophomore. Alpha-Pi is also competing with the newly renovated Sigma Chi house, the fairly recently renovated Lambda Chi house and also the new Phi Delt house that is being built. Alpha-Pi has faced some hardships this past year, but they only graduated four seniors.
The Alpha-Pi website is updated by my friend Dave Rusk and he is a quite busy senior so it probably won't be updated for a while, at least until composite pictures are taken.
ETA: One of my senior friends just confirmed the 15 guys. He said they went for quality not quantity so to avoid the de-pledges that occurred last year.

86 pledges? Good lord....
My chapter consists of a whopping 26 brothers right now.... better than the "others guys" (SAE) who have about 12.
What can I say? It's a tiny campus. However, this year's freshman class has nearly doubled the enrollment of the school, so we could nearly double our size this year. After all....

At the Xi-Phi chapter we got 15 pledges. At USC-Upstate we have about 6,000 students so this is a pretty good rush for us. The other fraternites (sae & pi kapp) only got around 10. We normally try and keep the quality over quantity mentality, but this time we got the best of both.

Good luck with Rush this year...with that many new freshman, things sound like they could be promising.

Just wanted to report that a fun time was had by all last Saturday at Lambda Omicron's bid day. Right at 20 guys I have been told accepted bids, and the brothers are still waiting on a few more as well, due to the holiday weekend travel. When I find out more, I will let ya'll know.
